Will answer any question as long as you ask and goes over any problem you want or don't understand. His exams are kind of tough because they don't give you time to finish or check your work, so if you're not confident in your work, you're stuck. But he curves the exams very fair(I got a 9 point curve once).

The Destroyer

People in the COSC major at Towson University call Shiva Azadegan "the destroyer" for good reason! She destroys the fun in any subject that she teaches! I don't even think that she understands any subject that she teaches.

I had the misfortune of having her for a database design class "learning" SQL. The syntax that she wrote on the board didn't work once we got to the lab...syntax that she misspelled half the time anyway!

She came to us from some communist country, and had the attitude to match! When we had questions about things, she would answer them rudely or dance around the answer, never actually resolving the issue. Getting through the material that she had to teach and the work that we had to do became much more important than actual understanding of the material.

In the end, she had to curve the grades so as not to fail the whole class, since most didn't have a clue as to what was going on. This is why she gets an F!

One of my best professors

I had Dr. Lillywhite for my first college class in 1986. He taught Freshman Composition (which was called by another name that I fail to recall) and really helped to improve my writing. Subsequently, I took a Creative Writing class with him that was thoroughly enjoyable. He manages to challenge his students and motivate them, not through intimidation, but, through passion, wit, hard work, and intellligence. Dr. Lillywhite was certainly one of the two best teachers I experienced in my academic career.

A great experience!

Dr. Cheryl Brown coaxed the timid graduate level writer to eschew 'academia' and open up and explore what it really is to be a writer. Most students in my class, myself included, learned a lot about our writing as well as the writitings of the many authors we studied (these ranged from Neitche to Didion to Socrates to Walker). She taught us how to focus on what we are reading and to form opinions by having us write responses to everything we read. This made for lively discussions, and gave us the opportunity to see what our classmates had to say about the works.

Solid, well read,

Solid, well read, loves the subject. Assignments are tough, but fair. I wish the class were a little smaller (it's 17, under 10 would be ideal). We're discussing what could be dull stuff (grammar), but it ends up not just making a lot of sense, but being sorta cool. Not like i'll diagram sentences for FUN now or anything, but his basic editing technique that we're learning will be useful for all my future writing.

Not worth the money!

Hello...this is grad school, not freshman comp! The second class of the term is devoted to exposition, the rest is a rehashing of her undergrad classes: she even admits it! She should not be at the graduate level, she's not focussed, nor well-read, and I just feel like I'm wasting my money.
