Read over on scrutiny--reviews there are equally as awful. Class had a ton of reading, most of which was irrelevant or not put together well and lectures didn't address any of the reading. Professors did not seem to talk to each other before the class period as lectures were often incoherent and poorly organized. There was one required paper, 2 online quizes, and a mid-term exam. Optional was a research paper. All, I thought, were graded fairly, except the final quiz on random trivia from the readings which was completely unrelated to much of what was discussed in the class. Except for attendence being taken at each class, I could easily have skipped every single class and done fine on all written assignments. Basically, I wouldn't recommend this class at all, and I don't think I'll risk another class with this professor--you can do much better at Amherst College.

All Around Amazing

Professor Hussain is probably one of my favorite LJST professors at this school. His classes are really interesting and higly relavent to what's going on in our legal system today. He's a very interactive professor and will call on people randomly in class so you need to come to every class prepared. He's a fair grader and will meet with you before papers are due to give you constructive comments. Also, sometimes he gives in-class tests but they are straightforward and if you have been to class you should do well on them.

Very engaging

His lectures, although not very structured, are very informative and interesting. In a about 100 students, he really tries to get people involved and talking, and is very willing to go off on tangents if people are particularly intrigued by a certain point. He may be disorganized at times, but I feel like he's succeeding in his efforts to get students to think critically about the material on their own. He places a high value on making connections between different topics we've covered, which makes his lectures more interesting than just reading the textbook. He's also very willing to work with students in office hours. He is fairly picky when grading things - he takes off points for minor stylistic errors - but overall he's fair.

ouchy

This professor simply does not deserve to teach at Amherst. He is an awful lecturer, and he's of the least impressive professors I've ever met. What I mean to say is that he's unintelligent (in comparison to most amherst faculty). He's also incredibly annoying.

Ultimate Office Hours

Assingments are not many and purposeful. He is not great in lecture in fact terrible. However his office hours and seminars are amazing. Really great to talk too and a nice guy that wants everybody to succeed. His testing is tought but once you get a hang of it, it is easy to cater to his tests.

Teaches art to the masses

Work is minimal but expects you to put some time out of class looking at film or pictures. He is very knowledgeable and pretty reknown considering how he is always on the move to conferences and museums. Swell guy and very amenable to extensions and office hours. Boring becasue of his tone of voice and general demeanor but overall good choice.

Great course. Take it if you are interested in the subject matter.

The course is great. The teaching is great. The Geology department truly teaches their courses treating the course part of the geology community. They try to make the student interested in the subject matter and make the student feel comfortable around other geology students and professors. The subject matter is interesting, though it can get repetitive/boring at sometimes, but overall very interesting and worthwhile learning. Class size is small and great and not much homework assigned. Labs are interesting and some are very fun.
