I took his class and did not find him very helpful. In fact he refused to provide me with vital feedback, so much so that after protesting his behavior U o P allowed me to drop the class, take the class with another teacher, and refunded me the cost of the class. They did this because they found his behavior to be unnaceptable. I took the class with another professor and got an A with no problems.

I was very displeased with his overall attitude and outlook on what a student's rights are.

Great History Instructor

Thank you for making this one of the most, if not the most, intresting History classess I have taken. I was not expecting such a heavy work load for a level 100 course. Bruce made a difficult course seem not so bad. He was available to offer assistance with questions, concerns and his participation within the main classroom was outstanding. He has a great sense of humor, which is balanced nicely with his high expectations of his students. Be prepared to work hard! Bruce is strict, but very fair. He never gave me a grade I did not deserve. Feedback was received in a timely manner. Though there were times when I wanted to pull my hair out because the work load was so large, I look back as this being one of my favorite classes because Bruce was fabulous!

She deserves an F!

Dr. Spann may be a teacher, but her approach resembles that of an oppressive dictator. She controls EVERYTHING about the class, including the type/size/color of fonts used for classroom and chatroom discussions. Her grading feels very biased and appears to reflect her taste in films versus that of her students. I eagerly signed up for Film Studies as I expected the class to be a refreshing change from my core, but this class was a nightmare. To date, Dr. Spann is the only facilitator to drive me from her class before the course ended. I felt I had no choice otherwise my GPA would have taken a serious dive. During my class, another student also withdrew for the same reason. Out of 32 online courses for UoP, this facilitator is in a special class all on her own.

Has very little understanding of the subject matter and has no idea how to give feedback to students. I think the reason most students like his "style" is because he does not make them work and I get a sense that he himself is quite lazy and does not want to do any more work than he has to. Her course was very challenging, exciting and her remarks very encouraging. Whitney corrects her students in such a way that, you get it, without worrying about being insulted. She is an all around Educator and I look forward to possibly sitting with her again!

The only downside to this is I had her in a six meek MBA 560 class at the University of Phoenix and I wish I had her in a traditional class in seat!

That is why we are at Phoenix and not Harvard. This proctor was unflexible and devoid of personality. When I questioned his style he stated he was a facilitator not a professor. I told him he was more like a proctor, just a body to represent the university in the class. Took all the human element out of the class and seemed uninterested in helping students. His pat answer was "look in the syllabus." If I understood the syllabus I wouldn't have been asking the question. He acts like he is teaching at Harvard Business School and not Phoenix. taught, but insulted and spoken to in a condescending tone on more than one
occasion made me question if finishing my MBA was worth the effort I was
putting in to for a few weeks. This was about the time my team mates
rallied to let me know I was not alone in my frustration. Since I come to
realize that I was not the only student struggling with trying to hit the
impossible target that Mr. Ferrado kept just out of reach of the class I
became very angry about the situation.

Very few people have posted questions to Mr. Ferrado regarding the
assignments I feel due to his caustic comments to us as a whole or to us
individually when we did question him. He wrote group feedback to the class
on how our assignments for the week had turned out and they were more
intense each week. His posts sometime made sense and others did not.
Incomplete sentences and blurbs did not really help to know what he wanted.
I actually tried to get clarification on DQ's from him on weeks 2 and 3 as
he asked for information we had not covered, were not going to cover or I
simply thought was a typo. Funny me, his response was to basically confirm
the information I had just told him and another time it was to tell me to
"hold on". This was so helpful to respond to the DQ with. I simply dug up
information on my own to answer with.

Mr. Ferrado seems to think if you post a handout - you have taught the
subject. Instructing or facilitating a course actually requires some
involvement with the students other than pasting a canned comment found
somewhere into all papers, ("[You understand what you want to say, but your
ideas are not always clear to the reader. Don't make assumptions. Explain
your ideas carefully.]") passing out grades, and sarcasm when the students
don't understand what they are supposed to be teaching. Those canned
comments pasted every other sentence mean nothing. They only generate
frustration and anger. An instructor knows they cannot post a bunch of
messages and expect the class to read them, and attempt process them with
tying them together logically somehow. Later in the course Mr. Ferrado
complained that only one person in the class understood the concept of PBL
or SMART goals to his standards, a student tried to reason with him that
just maybe it was because we did not know what to ask. This elicited
another wonderful posting of sarcasm but not as badly as the one when the
subject of a curve for the grades was broached.

We started with 20 students - last week we had 16 and only 1 understood the
course key points, I don't think it is the students' problem. The odds tell
me it is the way it was taught. This week we are down to 12 with about 4
day of class left. Now why would students still be dropping with so little
time left? As UoP wants us to some of us wanted to reabsorb other teams for
the final assignment as a gesture of true teams, and work together. Mr.
Ferrado said No, this is got to be one of the most ridiculous gestures of
the course. These teams of 2-3 are going to be killing themselves to get
the final assignment finished when they could have joined others or grouped
together. Their criteria is not going to be lessened due to the fact there
team mates have left, they will be required to work harder for no reason
other than Mr. Ferrado feels like it. This actually goes against what UoP
is teaching us and has since I started at this school in Jan 04.

Unfortunately, it seemed like many of my fellow students decided they didn't like the requirements and continually argued and berated the facilitator.

The class required some searching and digging to understand the concepts. The facilitator was helpfull in providing experiences and comments.

The other post on this instructor is an example of the kind of disruption that occurred during the course. It seemed to mostly be from a few of the other students, I think the facilitator did a very good job. He did not change the requirements just because some of the students didn't like them or want to agree with them.

Overall, I recommend this instructor. He's knowledgable and experienced.
