She goes out of her way to make herself available to students, whether through email, or in person. Attendance is not mandatory however she makes it clear that your involvement with class discussion and group work will determine your grade, therefor it's in your best interest to show up. She is lenient with homework and essay's as long as you show her you care and your work eventually is handed in. Projects are primarily done in groups and she is understanding if you are not the best public speaker, in which case she helps out by providing alternatives to presenting. I recommend her to anyone who has an interest in learning about what sociology can offer to the world.

A major dissapointment

These labs are extremely unorganized and basically a complete waste of time for a student who wants to learn how to operate plastics equipment and be able to apply their knowledge in industry. We have many plastics processing and testing machines available at our University and these labs should be used to allow students to use them on a regular basis and become comfortable and knowledgeable about their operation. However, what is stressed by this teacher is not practice with these machines, but the ability to write lengthy laboratory reports that are of minimal if any use to the students. This lab is a one credit course. However, I have found myself doing more work in this class than any of my other 3 credit courses, with hardly anything to show for it.
I am extremely dissapointed with my experiences in these plastics labs. I do not feel comfortable operating most of the machinery, and I have found the professor in charge of this lab to be very unhelpful regarding my concerns. This is supposed to be an Enginneering department. We've all been taught how to write and use excel, what we need is to learn from experience and problem solve.
I'd just like to note that on the whole, this is a very talanted and friendly department. There are many professors that will go out of their way to encourage students and are extremely interested in seeing their students suceed. It is a shame to see these plastics labs run by someone who seems to share none of these feelings.
It's also a shame to see all of the millions of dollars worth of equipment we have in the plastics department sit there unused while we spend countless hours in computer labs toying with tables and graphs. I would not recommend this class to anyone, however, it is a mandatory class to take for all Plastics Engineering majors.
Please, if you share my concerns, or even if you disagree, write your own review.

Expects a lot of students

Dr. Isaks expects students to actually learn; he usually is disappointed.
