i was gone for aprox a week and a half and missed the start of these projects so i ended up being 5 papers behind i went and spoke to him and he offered me a deal that if i got 1 in by the due date for review he would allow me to submit a completed work and give me a grade my paper ended up being 26 pages and i recived a b- on the paper

STAY AWAY FROM ECON!!!

This is the worst class I have ever taken in my college career. I am a solid B student, and this class is a shame to the university.

His tests are next to impossible, there is no possible way to study for them. 80% of the students in my class failed the first test, the rest got D's, and one person got a C. JUST ONE!

His curve is ridiculous....every question is worth 4 points, only 20 questions.......so if you get four wrong you're pretty much screwed.

He also provides false information in his lectures. He stated one day that women will always be less than men in society and that is why men make more money per hour on average....I wanted to bitch slap him!

He has a very poor attitude and if UMC is smart, they will get rid of him.

She is a good teacher

she is a good teacher but needs to be more varied in tone and more understanding toward students she is also a good user of experiments

she is a waste of time, i could have learned more from just reading a computer mag.

this teacher has no respect for the students she doesnt teach at all. she just says do what the book says and you wont have a problem well the book is old and has no use here. she shouldnt be at any place of higher learning she should be teaching at a grade school somewhere that isn't having to deal with adults. she also doesnt teach some basic web page design

Good Professor, Boring Class

Sue Brorson is a very good professor. It's just a shame that her subject matter is so dull! She has a good lecture style, decent in-class projects, and she's available outside of class quite often.

I don't like her exams much. They're mostly true/false and multiple choice, and half of the time, you're wondering if the question is so clearly obvious, or if you're missing something.

I missed quite a bit of class periods, which probably hurt my grade. It was just so dull.

Enroll if you can.

Doug Knowlton is quite a good professor. I don't think he teaches many classes, but if you have the change to get into his Psych class, go for it. His lectures are really engaging and they really manage to hold your attention, unlike some other (almost all other?) courses at UMC.

His homework basically consists of a question he asks at the beginning of class, and expects an email reply by the end. It's basically an attendance check. He usually replies with some useful feedback, too.

His exams are stunningly easy. At least, they were for me. Other people apparently had problems with them, which boggles my mind. I got a 100% on my first one. If you've even just skimmed the chapters, you'll do well.

The class, HTML/XML, was supposed to be an introduction to HTML and XML, obviously. But what was it really? A Javascript "class". We spent about 2 weeks on HTML, learned some basics, and then moved onto Javascript. The last week, we did some VBScript.

His lectures usually consist of him giving us a task out of the book, and wandering around the room, helping the cute coeds and ignoring those who might have a slight clue.

I never got a single project back with a grade. There were no tests. Just a couple of really STUPID projects. Usually he sent them by email, expecting them the next week. One project description, a Javascript order form (you'd never use Javascript to write an order form, but that's beside the point..) was changed the day before it was due, causing a few students to have to completely rework it.

To summarize: I have no clue what grade I'm getting in this class. I learned nothing. The class was nothing like the description, and he kept calling Javascript "Java". If I get less than an A, I am demanding a refund.

He is incredibly organized, which is quite nice. I've taken two classes from him: Statistics, and Survey of Calculus. He uses a combination of a computerized homework system, some Excel computer assignments, and fairly good exams to grade you.

The computer homework system is fairly nice because it doesn't require you to be on the LAN to use it, but it's fairly anal about having the exact right number format, and it doesn't give you any feedback as to what you did wrong.

His exams are fairly straightforward, but I usually ended up feeling like I did better than I actually did, for some reason. He lets you have a few sheets of notes on the exams, for formulas and other hints. Very nice.

After every exam, he sends you, via email, a very detailed summary of your current progress, missing work, etc. It's really nice. If all professors here were as organized as Bill Peterson, the school would be a better place.

His lecture style is rather dull, to understate. He talks really fast, too. I ended up not going to a single Stats lecture after my first exam, and I'm still pulling a B. As an example of his organization, I finally showed up for lecture the day after the 5th test. I hadn't gotten any of my tests back on paper yet, but he had all of them, as well as all of my homework and Excel assignments with him in a nice ordered stack. Impressive.

Has potential.

Martin Lundell is a new teacher at UMC, and really knows his stuff. He doesn't quite have the teaching skills to get his knowledge across to the students. He speaks really quickly and in a low tone of voice, but if you can hear and make out the words, he's pretty easily understood.

The worst part about the class was WebCT. It's an online homework/test/etc system, and it really sucks. It is incredibly slow and hard to navigate. His assignments are good--he takes them from his textbooks. But the tests are on WebCT, and if you can get the pages to load within 15 minutes, you're lucky.

He also expects you to do the assignments, submit them to WebCT, and then hand him a printed copy as well. Pick one or the other, please!

To summarize: Give Martin Lundell a few more semesters to work on his teaching skills, and he'll be a great, challenging professor. But only if he drops the dependence on WebCT.

An excellent teacher.

Paul Holm is a good teacher. When I informed him THREE WEEKS ahead of time that I was going in for surgery (and asked what if anything I would need/could do to stay current in class) he choose to wait until 48 hours before I went under the knife to inform me that "you are responcable for getting your stuff in on time" no help, no suggestions, no attepmt to work with me even though I had clearly tried to work with him. On top of this he insistes that the method we use is MUCH more important than getting the correct answer, which is understandable to an extent but to fail a student on one of the hour exams because a problem wasn't done by the method you prefer(even though the answer was correct) is in my veiw unforgiveable- this may have contributed to the fact that the class average on tests was somewhere in the mid-50's.

YOU WILL NOT LIKE ME BECAUSE I AM HARD BUT YOU WILL LEARN--I AM HARD BUT I AM FAIR

this professor may not be a very good prof for writing in my proffesion but he EXECELS in teaching writing and english in general, in fact he is the only prof who choose to remain at umc who ACTUALLY teachs anything.

He doesn't understand we are laughing AT him, he does not help us understand the subject (even those of us who would want to truly understand are hopeless) in preparation for any exams, homework is worthless as it doesn't pertain to anything on the exams...3 exams, which means if you fuck up on one, you're screwed and the possibility of doing well on one is poor at best. The exams are set at a level too high for the preparation we are given. Period. He once said, "Enjoy Microeconomics and you will enjoy it", in response to a confused student's desperate plea for help. The tests suck because the first half is all matching music your dead great granparent's uncle wouldn't have ever listened to. Watch out for the Japanese Kabuki.

It's a fun class for a whopping three credits. No over-exertion or painful projects administered. Like the heading says "Good times...great oldies"

Her tests are hard and cover 5 or 6 chapters at a time. I haven't received higher than a C on any one of them. Her homework is easy because there were only a few assignments in the beginning.

Especially for INM majors. However, like most pointless classes, this is a required class for a lot of different majors.

It seems to me that Sue shouldn't have to teach this class because she always seems so busy with other projects and committees. Even though she is super busy - she always finds time to fit her classes into schedule (yippee).

Conclusion: Sue's nice, the projects suck, the class is easy, the tests are hard, the material is monotonous, the class is required.

His tests aren't too hard if you know what's going on...and he lets you do the homework at your own pace.

His downfall is his lecture method. Although he rated in the top percentile with his speaking abilities - it is merely because he has the ability to speak faster than an auctioneer. When he gets rollin - get out of his way because he's into all this math stuff and you'll be left behind like the mathematical snail that you are.

All in all his class is pretty easy if you take the time to figure out what is going on although it may require you to put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on your icq for about 40 minutes as he does not make you disconnect from the network...ever.

Robbie McGurran's style of teaching is perfect for this type of class. She serves as a facilitator and a coach in many ways. She presents the information needed, works collaboratively with the students, and allows a certain level of self-directed learning to occur. She doesn't spoon feed, but makes the students do the work in order to allow the learning process to occur. She often leads the group in discussion and "group" discovery, meaning she lets the students' discussions provide the solutions to the problem rather than simply providing the answer right away. I have to say she is an excellent, excellent, excellent instructor and person.
