Has a great personality and the test are extremely challenging. He is a district attorney, and sometimes tells us fascinating cases. His lectures are well prepared, with very creative and entertaining examples and the tests are hard as hell. No an easy professor.

Somebody in authority should evaluate his teaching techniques and his mental condition. Calls his class "boot camp." You are better off staying home and reading the book because attending his lectures doesn't get you anywhere or help you pass the exams. It shouldn't be a history class but a reading class. The class is not about understanding, it's about memorization. If you can, get out before the deadline.

Nor would I recommend this class to people who have no programming experience. Proffessor could have assigned more homework from the book, but we were overwhelmed with the projects as it was. This guy is mindblowingly smart, expects same from others, expects consistency of high performance. Tests are time consuming, so you need to practice and know your stuff very very well. (with no gaps in your knowledge, because he WILL test everything.) Read the online notes and do the projects.

Great teacher, tries hard to make you understand.

The first two weeks is a review of basic statistics. He is not too picky about the format (of anything), he is all about the bottom line: do you know your stuff or not? This is an intermediate-level statistics course that uses excel and some software known as Stat-Pro (an excel add-on) Teacher is too lenient on the homeworks, does not assign enough of it to truly internalize the material and he just checks them off -- does not collect. Does not grade them, but goes over them in class. It is hard to make this material not boring, but he tries and jokes often.

No homework? If you do the homework, the course is a breeze. That said, he did not put enough effort into explaining the project. Pretty big emphasis of finance at the last part of the semester. So I recommend taking after/concurently with Finance 303. He says his class is a bootcamp. And that is a major understatement. His lectures are way over our heads(and are done at about Stanford Graduate school level) never-ever related to pop quizzes (on random Fridays covering random readings from a random of four books.) I should have been doing folks a public service and stayed outside his clssroom (As I saw a guy do) warning his students to drop his class while they can, but I was too busy to do this. Yet I did get to talk to about a dozen people who took him after me and did a lot worse than I did. I should also warn you of multiple choice questions with 18 possible answers.(as in A, or B, or C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R....18!)That was on a Pre-Final FTF is Pre-Final? If this person had a choice between an heart transplant and a personality transplant he should opt for the personality. He cannot stay on track at all. He is far more into demonstrating how great he believes his knowledge is. No one can keep up. If you question his pace, or what he is saying he then tells you that you do do not believe in God. Guess not if you don't believe in him in his opinion. He is power hungry, condensending, and has the worst way about him. He also failed teaching 101 because he writes all over papers in red ink making students feel even worse over the mean-spirited remarks he writes on their papers, and too for his complete lack of compassion. This was probably the worst experience in my educational career. Thank goodness for Dr. Arthur Lane, who was the redeeming factor in the English department. Whose intellect, and compassion, and ability to be human with his students while imparting his vast knowledge far surpassed that of this gnat named Joel Athey.

A terrible teacher

This professor gives teacher's a bad name.
