However, i had a little bit of difficulty understanding what he was saying. It always seemed like he was on a totally different level than me. Overall he did a good job, just try to make sure everyone understands him. He made me laugh at a lot of the silly things he would do.

Yost is God!

What sucks about this class is that graduation means can't work with Paul anymore. Nobody else teaches 103 (hey, somebody do something about this okay?). I'm sure she tries to teach this stuff, but is so clueless about the material. Seemed like it went a little slow, but there were a number of people who were behind, so guess it was a good balance for everyone. No lectures really, just some mumbling about "work on this problem on page xx" and then a while later he asks if there were any questions. Can't understand his explanations, and he mumbles at the board a lot. Kind of like learning math in the dark with some occasional distractions just about the time you might have figured something out. I dropped after 3 classes of this.

Great Teacher

This was the best math class I've ever taken. Mostly using algebra to solve equations. The lab materials are horribly out of date and old. They need new equipment. Half the time the oscilloscopes and other equipment was broken which made labs really frustrating to do. Teacher's nice, but class wasn't particularly enlightening.

This Class Turned Rotten

I was looking forward to this class and then it became a nightmare. We did NO assembly language all quarter. No, I'm not kidding. Not 1 line of it. I'd really like to get my money back. Instead he talked about some JAVA crap all quarter and most of the programs didn't work at all or only partly worked. Then he had the nerve to tell us that if any of us were any good we'd go to MIT. What's up with that? I thought this was going to be cool, and instead he transformed into a jerk. I think we all thought this was one of the most worthless classes we'd ever taken and his attitude was the worst. He needs to get a life and not take his problems out on the students.

Good Class

This was a fun class and we got to do neat stuff with assembly language. One is on the subject of being impartial. While Paul does know his subject very well, and can convey his knowledge with great skill, he does little to motivate people - expecting them to be motivated on their own. This is not entirely bad, but not a good thing either.
Mr. Yost is a little free with the red pen on tests and assignments, but overall he's a good teacher.

Do Something Better with Your Time and Money

Sitting through 2 hours of this guy bumbling with his graphing calculator, and telling us that he was a high school teacher and "taught this class before so might know something more than others" was pretty awful. Who knows what he was writing on the board? Mark something down, then he scribbles it out, acts surprised at what's up there, does it again. Possessed by math demons? First day, tells us that he's going to miss 3 weeks (6 classes) in the middle of the quarter, because he has another teaching job at the same time. (Oh yeah -- and even better -- he tells us this after telling us that his attendance policy is that we are expected to attend every class -- with a straight face!) Maybe it's a blessing -- we won't miss much, I'm sure. In fact, I'll help him out even more. I'm going to drop this waste of my money, buy the plain old textbook, and learn it myself if there isn't a better teacher. The class isn't going to add anything but 4 hours of wasted time in my life every week.

Other math teachers should take note

Really clear math instructor. He was on campus at 2 am helping students on more than one occasion. He knows more about computers than any of the other teachers in the department, and is actually willing to share and TEACH -- not just assign stuff to do, or lecture from a book, but actually TEACH. If you really want to learn about computer engineering, take his classes.
