There are several teachers that teach this class, and I've heard mixed things about all of them. Dr. Burroughs is an average to slightly above average instructor. She seemed to have many overburdening responsibilities outside of class which seemed to stretch herself thin on being prepared when class started. Her lectures are excellent and keep you interested during a class session most of the time. Her homework assignments are mediocre but useful in the overall concepts and theories of what is intended to be taught. I don't know if she still does it or not, but you have to do a rather large and detailed group project towards the end of the semester. For anyone who likes to work by themselves or with very few people, I would not advise taking Burroughs due to this project. Her group project was a horrible experience and lacked a lot of direction. You were required to meet numerous times with your group outside of class time to prepare a 30 minute presentation involving some aspect of intercultural communication (such as body language, non-verbal communication, foods, etc) Trying to set up meetings in which everyone in your group (5-7 people) could meet outside of class was nearly impossible. College students have such varying schedules and responsibilities that it was a very bad experience for everyone in our group. Dr. Burroughs tests are fairly difficult and you may or may not do good on them depending on your cultural background and experiences. I would say that Dr. Burroughs should be 2nd or 3rd on your list of possible teachers to take for this class if you have the option.

Anatomy is, and always will be a difficult class for nearly everyone. There is a lot of terms and things to study and there is not necessarily any easy way to teach it. Dr. Lamarre however made the class as enjoyable as she could and helped to articulate certain concepts using humor which helped to lock things into your brain. She is a very good public speaker and has the attention of her class throughout an entire period. She takes extra time to cover certain concepts especially if even just a few people don't understand them. Her tests are difficult if you don't study, but easy if you do. She isn't bent on failing people in her class, like some other instructors out there and as long as you ask questions and participate in class, you'll do fine. Her thick boston accent also makes her even more humorous than I think she takes credit for. Many people would agree with me that Dr. Lamarre is an excellent all around teacher and it's too bad she can't teach more of these types of classes here at Stanislaus.

She has a very unique personality which at times can be really funny. For most people, especially in a class like this, acting is not something we are very comfortable with. At first the class can be a bit nerve-racking because she somewhat "throws" you right in and makes you get over the nerves quickly. You do many hilarious activities...things you never thought you would do. As far as homework, you have to do a couple reviews of plays and of course practice your performances, but none of the work is that difficult. At the end of the class though, I was able to get up in front of everyone and do an acting presentation without being nearly as nervous as I was at the beginning. One of the things I liked the most about O'donnell is that she made everyone get very comfortable with each other. Everyone knew each others' names and many friendships formed in that class, which is somewhat unusual for most college classes. Her husband also teaches the same class, however I can't vouch for him, so if you want Mrs. O'donell for this class, make sure you sign up for the correct teacher. One other thing to know is that for the most part, all the performances you do are solo...not in a group or with a partner. Trust me, just keep in mind that everyone else in the class is doing the same thing, get over the nerves the best you can, and you'll be glad you took the class. Good luck and have fun!

She has excellent speaking skills and makes her lectures interesting by providing examples of real life situations and also videos. The exams are a bit on the difficult side as you are given approximately 10-15 questions about a week before the actual test. When the test is given 4-6 of these questions are randomly selected, so you basically have to know and study everything rather diligently. Before this class, I didn't have as much appreciation for the environment and the benefits that it offers us, but after taking her class, I think about many of the things she mentioned on a continuous basis. For most majors, this class covers several different areas so its a good one to take.

The first part of the class involved lectures that were concise and followed a pre-made outline which Dr. Hall provided for us in class. This made it easier to learn the material as well as study from for exams and quizes. After about halfway through the class, we started to go out to a local elementary school and do PE lessons with the kids. I personally learned quite a bit from doing this type of activity and there wasn't a ton of pressure either. Every class should be like this one in that it was fun and you learned a lot along the way.

As it turned out, there were only a couple men, so women could talk freely about the opposite sex without apologizing to them. Most everyone was open-minded and we had a pretty diverse crowd. JJ is an amazing woman and she has some very radical ideas, which makes for an interesting class. I felt that on certain days, this class was like therapy. I could talk about anything and get support and feedback. I wish all my classes were small and open for discussion like this one is. As for the papers, they were only moderatley difficult. SHe explained them thouroughly and she gave us a variety of topics to write on almost every time. She even let us throw out our lowest score. I had her for both Math 1030 and 1040 (10 straight weeks). I've always been one to not enjoy math very much, but Terry made the class much easier to learn. She has a very straight-forward and blunt attitude, but it shouldn't be taken the wrong way. Whenever you ask her a question, she will make sure that after she is done explaining that you understand. The homework/workload for each term was manageable and not too much work to handle. If you stay on top of things and go to class, you should get a good grade in her class. As long as you aren't afraid to approach the teacher about a question you have, I'm confident you'll have a good experience.

The homework is VERY time consuming as it an extreamly large reading assignments and there are quite a few long papers expected but she grades more on content so she is a very fair grader. The only annoying aspect of the class was the fact J.J is too consumed with maintaining a non-confrontational class room when one should expect in a repressed women's studies class as this in the valley. We had two book-based exams throughout the semester. I think the class average was a D and I got a C on both. On one exam, we were supposed to have two days to finish, but after the first day, she decided that one day was enough and those who expected a second day to finish were out of luck. We had a small group project due at the close of the semester, but she graded us on our public speaking skills instead of our small group skills. I do not see how she expected the class to perfect our public speaking skills when we never even went over the small group skills. I got a C on my final speech and then she gave me an Incomplete for my final grade.
