His tests are so hard, that he has to give 40 point curves so people will pass. He teaches with a passion for Geography though, and he loves what he does. He has one of the best attitudes I've ever seen in a teacher. Nonetheless, the material in this class is difficult, because the tests are very specific. Lightfoot isnt a good teacher (I hear) and the best bet for this class is probably going to be Dr. Stadler. The lab in this class is an easy A, and the all day field trip, well this one youll find out for yourself :-)

Good pick

Overall a great TA. Lots of powerpoint slides. Get ready, because your eyes are going to melt from them. Interesting lecturer, or, about as interesting as he can be with the dull subject matter. Open to reviewing assignments ahead of due date to offer suggestions. Not as tough a teacher as he seems, although his demeanor can be intimidating and he tends to 'haze' new grad students in the class a little.

Grades like the wind and offers lots of suggestions, although often, complying with them is still not enough to boost the grade much.

Not your dream grad prof, but okay

Earns a B because she doesn't lecture enough herself; expects the class to carry the lectures. Often assigns far too many reading summaries. Often fails to make clear the objective of the class, leaving the students somewhat confused as to why they are doing what they are doing.

I don't recommend taking two of her classes in the same semester. Available and accommodating to students who she percieves as being hardworking--all others seem to have trouble finding her or gaining much useful help from her.

He's not your typical leftist prof, but he's not conservative either. He is pretty openminded and easy to talk to. Listen close for the jokes in his lectures. Bays is a fair grader--doesn't dish out A's but if you do the work (read and go to class) and do the extra credit, a C is easy. The testing information is very specific and I like that I know exactly what is expected of me. The lectures are pretty interesting and the power points really help things out. Being the subject material and an hour and fifteen minute class you do pretty good at keeping my attention. I did like the movie. I think more movies might offer a change of pace, however this could also be a deterent for class participation. I don't particularly like the your first grade attitude analogy, because hey were not in first grade. We almost all have 20 years of people telling us that were wrong in public, and simply you don't like feeling like an idiot if you truly don't know the answer. I don't read the chapters thoroughly and many times I can't recall answers. So chiming out the answers and receiving a cocky remark back makes an individual feel kinda embarrassed and tend to remain quiet even if they know the answer. So if you want participation encourage it a little even if the answer is incorrect. Thanks for caring enough to have this system.

great teacher

She is very easy-going, and a great teacher. But this means you have to do well on the exams to pass his class. You also have to be in class because he takes attendance sometimes, and you can't pass if your not there. But the attendance can not help your grade. Which is very unfair. It shouldn't be able to hurt you if it doesn't help your grade in some way. If he has to cancel class, he makes you do homework or something to make up for that class that is canceled which sucks. Its not our falt class had to be canceled. The book is okay, but if you go to class the material makes a lot more sense b/c the prof has better examples and lots of slides (powerpoint). He puts a lot of stuff on the web, which helps. My favorite part of the course is the hilarious one-liners and who could forget Valentine's Day, when Elvis serenaded his biggest fan, Dr. Stadler, in class? The all-day field trip to western Oklahoma was cooool. Of course, some of the dumb-asses in class thought the field trip was a waste, but I'm from northeastern Oklahoma, and everything was an eye-opener to me.
