As long as you do your share of work, you will have a good grade in his class. His weekly assignments are as follows:

One disucssion per week (if students discussion content is not what he wants, he will let everyone know, so you can correct it before he grades the assignment)

One internet assignment (where he gives you a topic to research and write about - he gives some very interesting topics and I am sure you'll have lots of fun)

Test (10 question test that has no time limit - piece of cake)

In addition to weekly assignments, you will have four exams and each one of them is 75 points. Overall, Mr. Kalyagin's class is extremely organized and you will definitely learn a lot. In addition, he is very very responsive and you will not have any problems getting hold of him.

She does have a decent personality if you give her a chance, and is willing to explain things in more detail if you don't understand. However, I found I learned better on my own, as her explanations generally just confused me more. The book wasn't very good, with not enough examples, which was not her fault, but could have been helped by her explaining more. The lab facility was very nice, it was clean and well organized, and safety was always emphasized. She required a lab manual to be bought, but the lab directions were not explained as well as they could have been. Her lectures were ok, sometimes they were too fast paced and the class felt lost and she refused to slow down. Tests were not bad if you kept up with the homework. They were fair and generally not tricky. It is possible to get a good grade in this class if you do the homework, do decent on the tests, and keep up your lab notebook to her specifications, which she clearly states.

Overall, wouldn't recommend

Dr. Marawala does have a great personality- he is friendly and makes jokes, which is helpful in such a long class. However, he is very disorganized. The syllabus gave no indication of what the semester schedule would be like, and no indication of grading method. I had no idea what grade I was getting in the class the whole time. he curves grades at the end, helping the class out, but don't expect him to explain that. His labs were a disaster. They were messy and disorganized, and usually done on some outdated computer program that was not at all helpful to learning the actual subject. The majority of the time, he left the classroom to have lunch with another teacher as soon as the lab started, leaving us to fend for ourselves, and leaving our questions unanswered. I talked to someone in the evening class, who said that he didn't do that in their class, so I guess it was just my bad luck to take the day class. His lectures were mostly done on the overhead computer projecter, so notes were easy to copy. However, he uses the Paint program to draw diagrams, which turn out messy and confusing. The classroom was a sloppy mess, with chemicals and supplies scattered and spilled everywhere. Tests were only semi-relevent, and the text he suggested using was for med students- we were only supposed to use it for reference, but it was pretty useless, since it was way more advanced than our class. He did offer a set of cards for study that he made himself. (They were for sale in the bookstore.)These really helped, since he made them, and he tests on his personal material. He also gives a CD out in class that he made, which is very helpful too. Tests are generally based on the CD material. When you ask him for help, the amount he gives depends on his mood- it can be a lot when he is cheerful, or a little when he is moody. I heard from other students that the teacher at LPC is easier and better organized, so you may want to take it there.

Great- would definately recommend

I really enjoyed Mr. Davis' class. If you do the homework and keep up with the computer assignments, you will do fine in the class. Some students were frustrated with him, but when I talked to them, they said they were not doing the homework. You cannot expect to do well in this class just by listning to the lectures. The computer projects were generally easy, sometimes challenging, but the directions were always very clear. He thoroughly goes over the tests so that you can see any mistakes you made. He does have a sarcastic sense of humor, which can be both funny and insulting.

Great teacher with funny hair

Sean has a great personality and is passionate about teaching and this subject. This really helped me, since English is something I don't really care for. He is hilarious, but serious when it comes to writing papers. He reads papers carefully and gives good feedback. I am seriously considering Sociology as part of my Double major or Minor. Dr. Tong seems to be very informed about the topic but she does have a know-it-all attitude which is not appeasing. Also all we had to do was read for the course which wasn't very interesting but pretty easy to finish tests without reading. I didn't really learn anything from her class. I could have just bought the book, read it thoroughly and learned the same amount.
In the online delivery format, there are a lot of people who are ignorant and have no clue what they are talking about. So if you are serious about sociology - BEWARE!
