He posted the notes to upcoming lectures enough in advance that you could study them, mark them up, and be ready to ask questions at the correct point in each lecture.  His tests were most fair and covered the material quite well.  If given a chance find this instructor and take a class from him.  I did so by taking an AI class a few semesters later.
