He spends his entire class time writing new material. You do not get a chance to go over anything, or better yet even let it sink in. You are too busy writing the information down that you have no idea what you are writing. The review for the final exam was totally inconclusive. The exam had too many questions that were not covered in our review. When all was said and done out of 35 students 24 did not pass the class, 16 actually got F's, 8 got D's, and the rest got low C's, except for one girl that got an A (keep in mind this was her 4th time taking the class). I would highly recommend that you take someone else if you have the chance to. He is a nice guy and is in a rock band, but he is not a very good teacher.

Recommended

Professor Swan is a great teacher! He is straightforward on the tests. During class and office hours, he will answer as many questions as he needs to for you to understand the material. He is very full of energy. I have had him three times, math 170 was the first. He is willing to answer questions; during class, office hours, and others times to if you catch him. It is clear that he enjoys his subject. It is obvious, in the 200 level classes, that his goal is the students understand the material, not just how to plug the right numbers into the right formula. Some of his tests at the 200 level can have one or two sneaky questions. By sneaky I mean you should really know the material well in order to get them. But that just means you won't get a A+ if you don't, not an F.

Most interesting and upbeat teacher!

Dr. Newell is one of the best instuctors I've ever had. His class is my favorite. His lectures are full of helpful information and he is quite anitmated. He quite often calls on students to give their input or experiances. His exams are not easy by any means but, it encourages the student to know the material. I would recomend him to anyone wanting to take Psychology 101. He is always willing to talk to any student about whatever they need. Great teacher.

A++ Teacher

Mr. Miller is really a great teacher. He explains everything twice if needed, he always offers office time when needed. I had attempted this class before and either dropped or failed due to the difficulty of the instructor. Being a Citrus College Graduate with more then 70 units I have taken numerous classes with other instructors and by far he was the best Instructor! He wants and will help you to pass this class with success

For the electronics major - a must

As a foundation course for any field dealing with electronics equipment this class is a must. Mr Stoner's previous background working in industry brings a fresh perspective to the teaching environment. Lectures and Labs are done in a comfortable setting. Mr. Stoner interacts well with the students. He does not just lecture at them.

Mr. Stoner is a fun teacher who is also witty. The information he provides is clear consise and easily digestable.

Choose Maia Cunningham for Anthro.

Maia is multi-skilled and multi-talented. She is a very good instructor and very communicative. She somehow has access to many resources, which she shares readily with students working on projects. She's very Internet savvy since she also teaches Distance Ed. She makes herself available for online chats. This is more than handy when you want one-on-one time with her and somehow can't find the time to see her in office hours. I believe that she is fair-minded and flexible in her grading, even though she does not stand for BS on papers. Plus, she's just a delight to listen to, with her wealth of anthropological knowledge. She's structured and on the ball. No unwelcome surprises with Maia.

If you can get in his class, choose this guy for math.

This mathematics instructor is among the best that I've ever encountered. He started the semester with a positive attitude. He stated at the beginning of the course that mathematics was fun and that we would all overcome our math phobias by working together (students and instructor.) So far he has delivered on the promise. He is always prepared, specific and concise. He sticks to the schedule, yet the class is among the most fun that I have had so far. Everything is explained so clearly that there is no room for confusion. He answers all questions. It also helps that he gives previews of what's to come at the end of the class, so that we can prepare for the next class. In spite of a busy schedule, he is always readily available to help students that are having difficulties. I don't know how he does it, but even the most complex formulas and concepts become crystal clear after he teaches them. I recommend this instructor highly to anyone thinking of taking Stats or higher math at Citrus.

Choose this teacher if you are not interested in the subject matter.

This was a Distance Education course offered on the Internet. One wonders why Dr. Newell was chosen for this type of course. He gives the distinct impression that he's uncomfortable with this media.

I should've caught the hint about him when he didn't bother to show up for the Distance Education orientation meeting. In addition to being frequently in-absentia on the net, he often miscommunicated information in his few and skimpy email messages. His tests were full of errors and he was seldom available online for feedback.

IMHO, a DE teacher must be much more communicative with students than an on-campus lecturer. He/she must take special care to be clear, accurate, and concise online and on exams. He/she must be much more available on the net than in the classroom. It seems to me that being a DE teacher is a tad more difficult than teaching in the classroom. It should not be approached as a means of earning easy summer money without putting out much effort.

This is the impression that I received about Dr. Newell. This class could've been really great. As such, it was nothing but reading assignments and multiple choice exams taken at the Testing Center. All this was done without an instructor's guidance. Don't take this class with Dr. Newell if you're passionate about Psych. You will be very disappointed.
