Way too many life stories that are boring and frankly--hard to believe. Not being a native--his accent is hard to understand and his handwriting is juvenile.

His phillosophy is Communism and preaches it daily.

I wouldn't advise taking this guy if he were the last professor on campus. Do yourself a favor and look at all the other tallented professors whom can add to your education experience.

also--don't get too close to this guy in a conversation--has terrible bad breath!

In a class of his own!

Sam has a truly unique gift for motivating students. Very Personable!

Tests are taken right from your study guide handouts.

No homework.

Class lasts 10-12 minutes on a regular basis.

She is very easy going, and this class is good for an A.

Good Class To Take

This class is a good class to take to fill your Fine Arts slot on your distribution sheet. This class consisted of alot of hands on projects such as collages and critiques.

The tests seemed to be harder only because it was straight memory exams. He gave us handouts every week with anywhere from 4-20 terms on them. If you could momorize these sheets inside and out you got an A on the test easily.

Greg is a good guy, very easy to talk to, and willing to help you if you are lost on what to do. He loves his job, or it appears he does.

I would suggest this course for ALL students because you don't have to have a lick of art skills to obtain a good grade in this class.

Great Person

Just a good person at heart...

She is my advisor and I love her to death, she is one of the best people I have met and have made my college experience thus-far one well worth while...

Her class was fun, very relaxed...very little book work...and just one I looked forward to going to...

Tests are easy, little outside of class work, and makes you a very independent worker, and is good at making you work in groups...

He is a Dr with a chip on his shoulder, tons of smarts and too many stories about his life and times in college...and with all his stories...its hard to believe any of them...

His lectures go WAY off topic, his work load is that of a graduate level course, not a fresman level continuation of ENG101...

He is known all over the campus as being a hard-ass...and he is...if you are able to receive a high grade in his class, i would like to shake your hand...

In short, he is a professor who never got far in life, probably had the potential but screwed up somewhere...so he takes it out on his students...

I also currently have Com481 (Communication Research Techniques) with Dr. McGukin, and while the workload is heavy at times, the amount of knowledge I am getting from this course, and also from Perspectives (Com100) is greater then in any other course here at Cal...

People complain about the work load, but I think it is because they are looking for a free ride...we are in college arent we?

He is willing to help you as much as you need it, and wil frankly sit down and hold your hand all the way through the process in which you need help...what more do you want from him?

I would recommend taking Dr. McGukin to anyone here or who is coming here to California, be ready to do some work, but all you need to do is ask for alittle help and you will be fine...

An Outstanding Professor

I had Dr. McGukin for COM 100 my first semester at California and went out of my way to have him become my official advisor after knowing him for only about 10 weeks. This semester I'm currently taking Communication Law & Policy and Communication Research Techniques, both instructed by Dr. McGukin. The workload is heavy compared to most professors that I've had, but this is one professor who not only will go out of his or her way to help you, but you will walk away from him with a lot more knowledge than when you first walked in. You just can't be afraid of a little work! I'd recommend him as a professor to anyone.

An incredibly nice professor who takes the laid-back approach.

The coolest teacher I've ever had.

Starts class late, ends early. Average class length: 20-30 minutes. But somehow, he gets everything accomplished.

Lecture-based class, but Cassoveia is an awesome speaker. Think of him as a hipster Santa Claus. One of the nicest profs at the school.

Solid tests (scantron), doesn't ask trick questions.

Nass realizes that not everyone likes Anthro, so he keeps it simple. Plus, you'll watch plenty of videos.

Still, you'll have problems if you don't pay attention and if you don't go. Give it some attention and you'll do just fine.

Definitely recommended.

She's very nice, very funny, and doesn't push the class hard.

Warning: she MAY "freak out" if students regularly sneak out of class early. Nothing to get worried about, she's usually very laid-back.

Plus, you'll only give a speech or two in the entire semester. I've yet to even take a test in the class. She is a bit demanding of your speech performance, but the class is so easy overall that you won't mind.

Since Oral Comm is a Gen. Ed. class, take someone good.

Sadly, you will likely be stuck with him.

Well, at least he's a nice guy.

The problem with McGukin is that he's a hard-core workaholic. This is well-known across campus -- almost everyone knows.

Hard work is one thing, but busy work is another.

If you take this class, expect to pull plenty of all-nighters. McGukin's assignments are always inane: before the mid-term, you must hand in a massive portfolio that details 27 Comm Theories/Theorists. You also must retype all class notes (in full!) with daily Journal Entries, Weekly Journal Entries, and "Unit" (?) Journal Entries.

Obviously, this is an insane amount of work (to be completed in less than one month... not easy, so start early!). My portfolio was well over 80 pages (eighty), and I only got a B. He described my Portfolio as "A-quality work," but docked me a letter grade because I forgot to include a few Weekly Journal Entries (which are rehashes of the Daily Journals).

After the mid-term, you'll split into groups to work on a big group presentation. This is just as hard as the Portfolio, because McGukin demands audio/visual excellence and won't settle for "a series of speeches."

This is the hardest class I've ever taken, and I'm no dummy -- I can't believe I'm getting a B.

It's currently 3:24 AM. I am working on the Group Presenation, which I give Wednsday.

I hate this class.

Cool prof.

Great Prof.....Exams are all objective.
