However, the test will not in any way resemble what is taught in class. This is a deliberate weed out class for the economics department. Don't take this class unless you already know calculus. This professor will lie straight to your face about what is being tested on. The class does get a C average. Annoyingly, some math majors and such still ace the tests.

Outstanding professor

Dr. Rose is easily the most intelligent professor I have ever had the opportunity to study with. A genius, and I don't say it lightly. He isn't the most animated lecturer, so classroom lectures can be long. But catch him in some one-on-one conversation, or engage him in discussion, and you will be amazed.

Well-planned class

I thoroughly enjoyed this class. The reading load was heavy - especially in the beginning. I think it could be cut in half with no loss of content to class discussions. Gerardo used many forms (movie clips, role-play, etc...) to keep class interesting. While the material may not be as concrete as the finance areas, I found it to be applicable in my current position. It opened my eyes to the detail of some areas (ex. social security, labor unions) rather than just my general awareness. Four hours is a long class, but I always enjoyed this one. I would suggest paring down the reading - especially in preparation for the final. Giving a few readings as case studies and focusing on management concepts would have been more helpful and applicable.

Excellent Skills, Poor Material Execution

Gerardo is a great guy. That's for sure. He is a very capable teacher. Probably one of the best.

However, the class focus was purely theoretical and no real practical information.

My guess is that either the department just absolutely blew it with the course objectives, or Gerardo didn't have a lot of personal business experience to draw from.

This was supposed to be a business class, as this is part of the MBA program, however it felt much more like a undergrad psychology course. What more can I say? Good guy, great teacher, but the "take away" factor was very low.

Too much

A little too animated, over the top. However, course assignments and discussion are tedious and non-meaningful. Lectures re-hash points over and over and over again. Eventually one gets disengaged because of over discussing everything. Doesn't know when to move on. Grading system is not effective, leaves your fate in the hands of other students, which is not smart in a highly competitive environment. Seems like he doesn't want to grade anything himself.

A great class by a great instructor!

This professor has done an extremely good job of constructing course content. I feel the simulation is the strongest asset to the class. More assets include the material such as the two text books that were selected. The review sheets that are given to review for exams. Lectures are also a great attribute to this class. They are formulated in a concise manner with forethought that is presented well. Also the class has numerous activities that bring in students point of view.

The course was given in four-hour blocks to a classroom of working professionals. The assigned reading, while applicable, was too heavy for students with other classes and full-time jobs. The course was not designed to meet the needs of graduate students who work full time.
Also, there is no way to accurately measure performance in the class. Prior to the final day of class, the only known score was the result of the midterm.
All in all, the course was good. But with a few minor changes, it could be much better.

Good teacher, but too political.

Gerardo knows his stuff very well. He's good at explaining it in an understandable way. What is irritating is that in 10 weeks of class, he criticized "the Bush Administration" 10 times. He never said anything negative about democrats.
When a professor teaches a class that covers power/politics, and yet he only sees the bad in republicans and the good in democrats, his credibility is at risk. It's unprofessional to spout partisan vitriol in a classroom, whatever the persuasion, especially when about half of the students are probably of the opposite political view. Just stick to the material, please.

I highly recommend this course and professor.

I really enjoyed this course. Based on grading of mid-term, he really is stingy on giving out A's.

Good lecturer and cares that you learn the material.

Also, Gerardo utilized university library resources to distribute course readings electronically. Based on past experiences, if the readings would have been made into a course packet, it would have cost over $100 to purchase. Also, this is a more environmentally friendly way of distributing readings. I didn't waste paper by printing the readings. I just stored them and read them off of my laptop. THANK YOU Gerardo! Tell all of those professors making us buy $75+ course packets to do the same thing.

Good teacher

well spoken and knowledgeable.
