Make sure you do not miss a class. If you do, get the notes from someone. His exams are very hard, but if you study every 2-3 nights, you should do fine. He provides a challenge but is reasonable. He has a good sense of humor and very down to earth. He seems to have a good sense of what is critical to the class. I have learned more practical and usable knowledge in two classes I've taken with him than in all other classes I've taken in college. If you want to gain skills in the latest and best task analysis techniques, his class is just that.

His position as concentration leader is unfortunate for students.

The man is stubborn, but sharp. His class is advertised to have group discussions, yet the theme always seems to be his speculation wrapped with his students' kissing of his ass. He really doesn't encourage creative thought, which is the whole point of theory classes. Not a good experiance.

Interesting class, important topics covered

This was a very intersting class and I learned a lot. The class set-up is unique in that are no exams only several research projects. The class is quite challenging but it is very interesting.

The class is more of an in-depth study of international economics than anything else. Personally, I would like to see this class as part of basic material required for business students. With the business world becoming increasing global everyday, this is an important class to take.

Dr. Friedlander is one of the best speakers I have ever has and I learned a great deal in this class.

Very good professor

The professor is a good lecturer and she stays on the topic. I was impressed by how well she knew the material. There was a lot of material covered in this class but all of the homework and projects will help you to retain the material.

The exams were a bit hard but if you have done the questions in the book, this shouldn't be a problem.

Plus, she is almost always available if students have a question.

Best efforts

He is an interesting lecturer and students will learn a lot in this class. His exams were hard but if students worked through problems in the book they should have no problem with the material.

One of his best qualities is that he makes every effort to teach the students the complex material covered in this class. He is also always in his office during office hours and is glad to answer any questions.

One of the best!

This professor will make you work hard but you will learn a lot from this class. The exams in this class were very hard but he does post on his website sample exams.

His depth and breadth of the banking regulations and how they are run was incredible. I have the greatest respect for this professor and I learned more in this class than any other.

He is also always in his office (he lives there) and will answer any questions students have.

Your grade will be as bad as his lectures

Everything was vague in this class, especially his lectures. He goes way off the topics he is supposed to cover. Then he expects the students to completely understand the material for the exam.

My advice, read the book in class, you will get nothing from the lecture. Study it hard though he grades very hard, everyone I talked to after this class was surprised how low their grades were. He does not use the university-wide grading scale (plus/minus) and he grades down.

He is an interesting speaker and seems like a nice guy but he needs to stick to the class material especially if he is going to try to trick students on his exams.

There is a reason he has moved around so much!

Worst professor I have ever had. Constantly changed assignments (reading and homework) and was not available after class if students had a question. The constant changing of material made it very hard to keep up, as all changes were done at the last minute.

The first exam grades were poor, meaning one of two things. Either the students were not motivated or there is a problem with the professor. Most of the students were business students, so I know most of us were working very hard to get a good grade. I felt by the end of this class that the professor cared much less about teaching the material than he enjoyed demoralizing his students. He constantly talked down to his students and he did not like the fact that I answered all of his questions in class in-depth.

This class was a no win situation, as he forced us to use his friend's book. This is one of the worst textbooks I have ever read. I personally found over thirty mathmatical and grammatical errors. So you can't learn the material from the book or the professor!

For those students unluckly enough to have signed up for this class, all I have to say is good luck. You will need it!!

Overall, a solid teacher.

There is a ton of writing required for this class. He droned on during lecture. When you asked a question, he would only re-read what he had already read from the handout. He couldn't clarify anything for students. The homework is ungraded. The final grade is based on the average of 4 equally weighted tests. Each test was cumulative. The tests were very tricky and so you need to read carefully. I heard the other DESC 210 professor may have been worse, so unless Mason hires someone else, you may be screwed.

very effective

If you have to take BIOL 103/104, take it from Professor Pratt. It's a lecture class, so forget about asking questions during the period.

He is extremely knowledgeable in this field and augments his class with his interesting real-world work.
