Although most of her quizzes are open book, they're still challenging. As Nancy pointed out, this class is an INTRO to various software apps. I got all the software help I needed to complete my projects during lab hours but if you want to learn the software really well, you'll have to practice on your own. The projects were challenging and time consuming but it was time well spent. We all had to present out final projects to the class and I enjoyed seeing my fellow classmates' projects. I enjoyed this class - the quizzes, not so much - but the projects were fun. Nancy is also a great adviser. I recommend her if you don't already have an adviser.

Take him

Apparently, Ozer is one of the professors who does not demand a lot from his students. If you want to learn - you will learn, if you just want to pass you will pass with a minimum effort applied. At the same time he is really passionate about teaching, invests a lot of time into that, and makes good accents on the topics that you will need to pass EIT. His classes are certainly useful, I strongly suggest you be there so you could follow the material, look into the book sometimes and you will do well. Usually students who complain about his teaching are the ones who skip classes during the semester and one week before the final puzzle themselves with a question - Now what? And take some time to see him during office hours - he is a great guy to talk to.

If you go through hell now everything else is heaven

I took sullivans 690 class about 5 years ago. The class originally had 40-50 students. I actually didnt have a seat trying to add for the first week. As time went on it dwindled down to less than 25. With how impacted the business program was that means half the class chose not to graduate that semester. That is real world Business.

The class is tough to say the least but you learn so much. You will learn more in one semester in that one class than your whole college career. You will not think that upon completion or graduation but you will be ready to take on the world. Months or years down the road you will awake one day and want to thank John for kicking your ass.

I asked John Sullivan at our semester end dinner on why he teaches here at state as he can easily teach at berkeley or stanford. This is his way of giving back since most people who graduate from state end up working at baskin robbins or something outside of their degree. He trains us to compete with those big schools for jobs. My past job was full of Stanford grads, Berkeley grads, UCLA grads, and me and another fella from state. Both of us took 690 with John Sullivan.

Find the place where everyone runs from and Jump in the fire or chaos whatever it is. After you have cleared the flames do it again. The difference between the people who made it and didn't are the number of times their ass got fried and still compete with that one extra wrinkle in their brain and another coat to their skin.

This is my honest review of this class as it has tremendously help me side step the corporate ladder. I hope this will motivate the next state graduate to take the challenge and kick some ass in the real world.

It is not what you have in life but what you leave behind.

Remember that nothing in life comes easy. Experience first cash second.

For those wondering I was anything but the teachers pet and graduated with a 2.1 GPA from state and actually got an A from Sullivan.

She makes the most difficult concepts easy to understand and she is very approachable for questions and answers. Her lectures are not boring and she explains everything so that students can understand economics. As long as you attend all of her lectures and you write all the notes she writes in class you are guaranteed an A because the exams are the notes. Do not memorize the concepts and theories, instead understand them and everything will be sublime. If you are just simply trying to get by with a C-, good luck. Its either you do you work and understand everything for an A or you slack around and get an F.

A woman confused by her own acomplishments

I'll admit Lu is quite knowledgeable and has the credentials and experience to back it up, but she is probably the most horrible teacher I've ever had. Ill-spirited, mean, and hypocritical, Lu does not know the difference between being direct and being a complete a--hole. During a meeting over a group project in the 600 class, I approached her in the same forceful way she had with me since I first started the program. Anyone who can dish it out that much can certainly take it, right? Wrong. Citing me with the inability to constructively criticize, she shunned me for the rest of the meeting and effectively, for the rest of the semester. I found out the hard way that playing favorites is her way of thinking she's actually being a good teacher. Almost a decade after many of the reviews posted on this site, I still agree that a dark cloud hangs over any classroom she steps foot in. If it weren't for all the other previous classes I had taken, I would have switched majors by now.

And for all those chastising us "crybabies" for not taking her passive/aggressive behavior as a swift kick in the right direction, I have to completely disagree with you. No leader ever successfully ruled a country by fear. Lu is no exception to this fact.
I did get an A in her class, but it definitely wasn't because of her. If anything, I didn't tarnish my high GPA in spite of her.

She likes to teach Chemistry. I have her for both lecture and lab. Her exams are ok - you can pass without reading the book because she posts her lecture notes on her webpage. Come to class everyday because the book does not explain the hard part. Her lecture is ok - she will write on the board and her writing is really clear!
The lab part - she explains the procedure well and if you do not understand it, ask her and she will gladly help you. And if you do not finish the lab work, she will not deduct points off from you.
Best of all, she is really helpful and she is always available: in her office or through email no problem. She will even recommend tutors for you.

The DS412 course you want to take

Although I am a pretty good student, I was terrified of DS412. Luckily I had the honor of taking this course with Dr. Jamie Eng. She made the class fun, interesting, and almost stress-free.

Overall, she is an excellent professor: she is approachable and helpful; her lectures are clear, organized, and they definitely reflect her knowledge of the material.

There are two exams in the class (a mid-term and a final), there are also pop quizzes and online homework assignments. The online homework is a lot of work, but it will definitely give you practice for the exams. The only thing I would change about doing the homework would be to do it on weekly basis rather than trying to get it all done right before it was due.

Her grading policy is awesome, she will assign the highest grade of the following three methods:
1. Exam scores only
2. Exam and pop quiz scores only
3. Exam and pop quiz scores, plus online homework.

I would definitely recommend Dr. Eng for DS412.

Beware

First of all in no way is this personal, but there is alot of readings in this class taught by Brown, there are 3 big packet essays to read by every monday for a quiz, so you better balance your other readings for other classes to even keep up with this class. If that was all it would be fare, but there are 2 to 3 papers due, 5 to 7 pages long. I would take this class for credit/non credit. She reads directly from her notes and doesn't slow down for you to catch it all. She lectures about exactly what you read from the book. She adds nothing new to class or what you are learning. She spends more time worrying about where people are sitting in class than teaching us something! (SHE hates when people sit in the back of the class). Her midterm and final is ridiculous. She could have done it on ilearn, but instead she forces everyone to come into class and take a 70 question multiple choice exam. THATS FINE. except for the fact that she takes her questions from exact quotes from the books she assigns.. so its trick questions.. she will give you four choices with one word difference.. then you have to waste your time searching frantically for the exact phrasing!!! CRAZY. The paper assignment is just as bad. She had a choose a topic of our choice.. research at least 6 journals on the subject and then write a "synthesized" version of the topic. WTF does that mean!?!? the class kept asking.. instead of answering she reread the syllabus out loud to us. SHES impossible. NOT to mention her hygiene is bad and you can hear her dentures clack when she speaks. The class was a waste of my time.. and i'm very disappointed. I came from CCSF and i loved my child development teachers there. This woman is burnt out and needs to retire.. there's no more passion and it comes across in her teaching and her attitude.

Really great class! awesome teacher!

The class was extremely informative. I didn't show up for class too often but still managed to make that up with 5 points of extra credit. SO i still received 91%. The midterm and final are multiple choice and done at home on ilearn. the paper she assigned was super easy, it just takes time to get the information together ( i chose to visit a group home and write about that).. I would recommend this class for your cluster (that's what i did).. its very informative and super chill.

A most enlightening class, taught by a most inspiring individual.

Dr. Lunine is a great teacher and an incredible person. In my opinion, perhaps, one of the best lecturers at State. His highly distinctive and didactic lectures were so thoroughly engaging and inspiring, one feels empowered and enlightened, yet starved for more at the end of his class. Humanism & Mysticism and India's Gandhi were two classes that begin with a thorough examination of some very profound and complex set of ideas and personalities, namely, dharma (duty/conscience), karma (action), yoga (discipline), moksa (liberation) and Gandhi. Prof. Lunine does justice (pardon the expression), to a very difficult area of study (ethics, culture studies, philosophy, history, literature, etc.)
Although following his discourse may be challenging at times, as it unfolds in a dynamic and synergistic open discussion, it is very rewarding. Grading is comprised of class participation, mid-term and final; sometimes a short written assignment is included, as well, but follows the syllabus for the most part.
It's a privilege and an opportunity of a life-time to take one of his classes. Be open to what he has to say, it will whet your appetite for living and loving life a little more and for asking and trying to answer the most pertinent question in the field of Humanities - what is means to be human?
Overall a phenomenal experience - if you let it be, as it is with every class and every experience - it's up to you.

Major creep

Not a nice guy at all. He often does not follow up on what he says. Tends to be very unresponsive with emails if you need help. In rehearsals, he would spend a lot of time talking about himself and what he did on the weekend. He also spent a good deal of time talking about war and his high school experience, things that have nothing to do with choir. He even talked about his religious beliefs to the point that someone accused him of trying to convert students. David is very narcissistic and will try to meddle in your personal life if you let him. He is the sort who teaches just because he can be in charge and have a power trip.

One good thing, though. It is hilarious to watch all the voice majors prance around him trying to get him to see how wonderful they think they are (the reality being most of them suck compared to singers at the SF Conservatory where I go now). Actually, David totally babies them while treating others like crap.

**** bais teacher

Lemme see...what can I say about a teacher I've only had for four weeks.... I have had the pleasure of taking every one of her classes, and have enjoyed every minute. This is saying something, as I had no clue what International Relations was until two years ago, when I took one of her upper division courses for an elective. Since then, I have earned a BA in the subject with emphasis on international law and legal-political relations and diplomacy. Couldn't have done it without her. Her lectures and feedback gave me more motivation than any professor I've had at SF State, hands down. She is politically savvy, with observations and conclusions drawn from the context of the material she's discussing--not from personal opinions, and she does it in a way that makes students want to participate in discussions and ask questions without feeling like idiots. Couple that with the fact that the subject matter she teaches is so diverse and interesting, and you can understand why viewers like myself and just about every one of the reviews posted here say such great things about her. She deserves all the praise and support she gets; just happy I can throw my hat into the ring there. Take her classes if you can; you won't be disappointed.

Weird one

I don't believe that she is a good one... i see that she got some good reviews but i would stay away from her unless you want to listen BS about socialism. If she is the only expert, don't even think of taking notes as half of what you write will be WRONG. She can't explain anything and her poor English and high pitch voice makes it very difficult to focus on what she's saying. Her tests are unreasonably difficult and are nothing like the homework and problems she attempts to solve in the class. Stop anyone in Engineering department (student or teacher) and you will hear exactly what I just wrote. Ask those who took a class with her as her nice personality seem to cloud people's judgment - teacher have to be judged on how well they educate, not how nice they are in life. Know two things first.

1. If you genuinely try in the class, you won't fail.
Entrepreneurship is a dive into the unknown. Many of the projects are meant to be ambiguous, because in real life you try it first, mess it up and learn from it later. It is meant to weed out the people who don't have the mind set to be entrepreneurs. So yes, you will struggle on your industry analysis, and earn a C or D or maybe even an F. She will have notes and comments all over the place, but don't worry, you will still walk away with a B in the class.

2. Yes, she is harsh, because in the real world, that is how it is. When trying to make your dreams come true in the real world, people won't listen to you or give you second chances unless you make a good impression the first time. You have to realize it is an act, but she truly does have a heart. She does care. After the class she held a work shop on her own time to help students who wanted to redo the project.

The exams are a little weird sometimes, but again, just do your reading and take notes and do your best.

Just give everything your best shot and it will be okay.

She is someone I would definitely toss back a couple shots in a bar with. She has a sense of humor and doesn't take herself to seriously.

Does she live up to her own standards? Well no, but she's preparing you to make a good impression your first time around.

Excellent Ballet teacher

As a professional dancer I have taken ballet at many different studios and around the country. Wendy is an excellent ballet teacher. She is also a modern dancer, however her roots are in ballet. Whoever wrote that Wendy is not a ballet dancer doesn't know ballet from dog poop. Granted Wendy can be a bit abrasive with her criticism, if you're in the performing arts you better have a thicker skin. Go home cry in your pillow and get over it. If you work hard and listen to what she has to say you will be a better ballet student. I adore Wendy and everyone that I have ever met that dislikes her is not only a poor dancer but they are also whiney and lazy.

Gross lies about Alicia

I hate that the first review to pop up is a gross lie about SFSU late beloved dance instructor. I had know Alicia for many years and she was fair and kind. She can be strict, like SFSU dance instructors, but she is also a wealth of knowledge. Shame on whoever wrote this tripe.
