Sure, Professor Thompson sometimes seemed a little disoriented, but come on, it's a math class. Has anyone ever had a good math teacher who sometimes doesn't get a little confused? Haven't you ever been confused? If you do the homework and attend the lectures, which you should be doing anyway here at FAU, I think you will find that Kerry Thompson is a fine professor. The only thing that helped me get through it was that before every exam he would give out a review that was exactly like the exam. If you have the review down you will do good on the exam. Very good at explaining those hard to grasp concepts. Tests and grades seem fair so far. He makes the class fun, less boring and less painful than what it should be. He is a wonderer. He does know calculus a lot, but when he corners himself on a problem he goes all out with his math knowledge leaving everyone behind. Once he got stuck on a problem for THREE consecutive class sessions, at the end he did not solve it. He introduced new notation ON A TEST!!! His tests are unreasonably hard, he does not come presentable to class (shirt half tucked in half hanging, bad hair day every day, clothes full of chalk marks, same pants, same shoes, and two weekly alternating shirts). I just not only do not want this guy as my professor, but also I do not want him near me either. When I say very tough I mean grading. Make a small mistake on your answer and consider it gone! BUT. on the other hand he gives tests that are 130+ points and he tells you to fish for 100 points. If you get it right he will give you the 130+ points. but if you get it wrong watch your points go bye bye. Overall it averages out. Gets VERY irritated with cell phones ringing during class and if you ask something he had already covered. He never came to class at time, always 10 or 15 minutes late. The way he teaches is even worst, you can barely understand him. The only good thing is that he gives a Pre-test before the actual one and they are pretty much the same thing. But in overall, I didn't learn nothing. By the way, never go to his office, it's a complete mess! But what is the use of his knowledge if he does not care if some one learns it or not. His attitude in class towards those who can't get the material in one lecture is objectionable that he will even scold the person who ask something related to previous 1 or 2 lectures. This discourages many not very bright students from asking questions again. Also he usually pushes you out of his office even if he does not have another student waiting out of his office.
