He welcomes questions and integrates them into the flow of the class. He is particularly good in higher level classes such as graduate combinatorics for which proofs must
be presented clearly and for which students must also attempt proofs. Performing your own proofs can be discouraging, but Dr. Drake is unfailingly helpful, assigning good homework, and being interested in his student's progress.

Switch: life or death

Don't even go to class. Lectures were hilarious, but I did not gain much educationally speaking when the only justification given for a low grade on a paper was that it was "stupid" (direct quote from his comments). Assignments were lame, requiring students to waste a lot of time and creative energy dreaming up hypothetical situations for technical compositions. We could have been spending this time sharpening our technical writing skills. The man's attitude was so offensive that I ceased to care about my final grade because I honestly didn't think I was going to have much power to influence it.

Bare with him, it's worth putting up with his shit.

I am a UF grad of 1998. I'm sorry, but when I pay $270 for a class, I at least wanna be able to understand what the teacher is saying. The exams were okay. There were 2 sections of the same class, one taught by a white guy, one by Qiu. Qiu's class had about 12 people in it, the white guy's had about 150! The teacher is a complete airhead. Her lack of photography skills shows in her below average slides about which she always says "Oh it must be the slide projector because these slides aren't that bad"...in actuality, THEY ARE! It was hellish. The class is scheduled at 5:10pm, and the woman shows slides with the lights out, and it's very difficult to stay awake.

she gives only a bare bones syllabus, and there is no book. she gives obscure facts on books, paintings and sculpture, and she gives no indication as to what is going to be on the exam. and when the exam comes, though it's open notebook, you probably didn't write down what she wants to know. i got a 52/100 on a test, and through a curve, it became a B+!

and to top it all, she has this grinding personality. worst of all, she takes attendence. you can only miss one class, and then each 2 missed classes drop you a letter grade.

Technically speaking, he's pretty decent.

I guess ol Losano is getting a little tired of teaching the kiddies. Maybe he's getting a little depressed at the prospect of our future society. He does get a pretty decent example of the writing skills of the up-and-coming generation. I can imagine his pain.

He never singled anyone out and ridiculed anyone in front of my classes. The assignments were difficult, especially if you are used to writing a more 'flowery' type of english used for various psych and philo classes. However, he was always available during offices hours before any large assignment was due. He would even go so far as to tell what grade you would get if you turned the assignment as is without regarding his helpful corrections. Woe betide any students who failed to take advantage of this service. The man knows what he's doing, and he will help you if don't come crying to him.

A lousy professor!

This class is all about ass-kissing! The better you are at that, the better your grade will be. Even if you don't do too well in his homeworks and tests, he will still give you a good final grade if you kiss his ass throughout the semester. If you argue with him on a point (especially in front of other class members), or ask him to explain something more than a couple of times, he will remember it and make you suffer when he assigns his final grade. UF is a good school with an excellent Computer Science and Engineering Department, but he is one of the few teacher's I didn't think belonged there. If you have no choice but to have him as your professor, don't argue with him and repeat his notes in class and tests and you will pass.

Lasono = uncaring asshole

technical writing is just one of the many pointless classes UF makes undergraduate students to take to fulfill their "gordon rule" requirements. thank god i got a nice TA because lasono is a complete asshole (he ripped up someone's term paper in front of about 250 students during a lecture because the student "dared" to interrupt him) and i think he teaches his TA's to be the same. avoid this class like the plague.

Funny bastard.

Losano is a smartass and kind of an asshole. My overall GPA sucked, because I was lazy. I did have Dr. Losano for Tech Writing. He makes you go to class. He forces you to spend time on assignments. I learned a lot about technical communication in his class, though compared to what I may have learned from another professor, I can't say. Compared to my working colleagues, my technical communication skills are superior. If your writing skills are less than satisfactory you will not receive a high grade in this class. I just hope he doesn't read this and try to grade my evaluation.

One of my complaints about bad professors is that they are either unclear about what they want (Dr. Selfridge, if you've had him for Numerical Analysis) or they give massive nasty surprises at exam time, where the tested material is not a fair approximation of the homework or lectures. I felt that Losano's class was fair, and gave me the kick in the butt I needed to take technical writing seriously.

I never did find out the role of the smiley face in technical communication :)

Avoid if possible

This teacher is a perfect example why the tenure system should be abolished.
