He is a superb teacher, very meticulous in his teaching method and very considerate about your personal issues and goals. He is always ready to answer any questions, and his tests are always based on his review sessions, so you're never unpleasantly surprised. He always intersperses his lectures with personal stories, so it's easy to remember and associate the material. The only drawback? He only teaches in Mountain Home!

Best CIS217 Professor at BSU

Rob knows his stuff. If you ask the question, he'll give you the straight, no bull answer. He knows the material extrememly well. He is an adjunct professor who is a professional Microsoft Certified Trainer during the week. He is a little unorganized and a little difficult to reach outside of class but if you want a babysitter then take someone else. If you want to learn take Rob.

Good to excellant teacher

Rob most certainly has his heart in his work. He is demanding of students and gives honest opinions. Some students didn't agree with those opinions but for the most part, I did. He chose informative articles to read as homework and required a short essay to ensure they were read. I feel two areas of his class need work, projects and tests. Projects, the class uses Rational Rose software in order to visually model development of an information "system". The software is complex and somewhat temperamental. Rob has made aware to the Corporation the software is being used and even has a company representative as a guest speaker. This software is required to complete the project but is only available in the business building lab (lab is somewhat inconvenient and software wasn't fully loaded some of the time) or for a two week evaluation on the company website. Learning this software will promote development of the Rational Corporation. I feel at the very least Rob should make the software easier to learn by providing the student a copy for the semester. Tests, both of my tests consisted of a speedwriting essay of which I was left with no time to review. Some students were unable to complete the essay. I feel an essay is fine for his homework evaluations but not for mid and final exams. Rob should re-evaluate his testing technique using procedures he taught in class. This re-evaluation will undoubtedly yield a better method.

Fair to good teacher

Tom Foster is probably a decent guy but he is a monotone speaker. He uses blackboard to communicate with students but often didn't update links and experienced difficulty posting test scores. Test questions seemed canned and poorly worded like the ones received with a textbook that are not reviewed. I felt the purpose of this class was to facilitate a quality website of which he is the champion.

One of the Best Geology Teachers

Mel Yenko is a gifted instructor. She teaches Geology with the authority of a scholar and the empathy of a student. She held a voluntary lab review on President's Day, Feb 19th, and almost everyone in the class showed up. The material isn't easy, but her preparatory instructions are so clear, (i.e. "Know Bowen's Reaction Series!") that even the dimmest bulb in our class is going to make it. Personable, smart, and truly concerned about her students, Mel is the absolute best earth-science instructor at BSU. If you get the opportunity, run (don't walk) to sign-up for her class.

Too much time spent sharing personal opinions on politics, environment and other departments. I have to say quite frankly that he is the most professional professor that I have had the pleasure of recieving lecture from. His class is comprehensive, yet even with his extensive knowledge he manages to empathize with the naive student and translates concepts into terms that most people would easily understand. Easily approachable and eager to assist students. A gem at Boise State. Professional with a sense of humor. Anyone who has read Richard Bach will appreciate the fact that Centanni read from Illusions during the first day of lecture to try to pry open some students minds to the reality of the world around them and thier responsibility to themselves.

Professor Schoedinger, among other things, would tell students in
the class that they were "ignorant," their ideas "ridiculously stupid" and
that he knew a lot more than us. Anyone with the courage to raise their
hand in answer to one of Prof. Schoedinger's questions was immediately
ridiculed. I don't remember one time that he ever acknowleged a student's
ideas or opinion as valid. He thinks he is the smartest man alive and they
college kids are a bunch of snotty-nosed brats who think they know
everything. Needless to say he did not provide an environment conducive to
learning. After the semester ended, and after many after-class
"discussions" with him, the only thing I learned was that he was tenured
and didn't give a damn about his students. Remember it's not what you teach
but how to teach it. His tests are part essay, part multiple choice.
Homework is easy but tests are hard. Study!
