She makes certain that students know what is expected of them at the beginning of the course and informs of them of any changes in a timely manner...sometimes up to 6 weeks in advance. Her requirements for grades are all reasonable and reflect the responsibility and professional conduct of a pharmacist. If one can not get a good grade in this class it is because this person will make a poor pharmacist. Some would consider some of the requirements as being trivial but the requirements also reflect what pharmacy law asks pharmacists to provide. Kathy didnt teach students...she made pharmacists. It is unfortunate that there were so many immature students in my class who expected grades for tuition and didnt make the minimum effort to earn them.

Completely worthless as an instructor

Hammerich is the most worthless, loatheful instructor in the pharmacy program. She has absolutely no business teaching.

Even with a syllabus, it is never clear what it is that she wants from students. She is condescending towards students and, like Dr. Martin and her crew, seems to get off on hazing and making the lives of students more difficult than they need to be. The funny thing is, she always does it with a smile on her face.

Whole classes fail her exams and she blames students' ineptitude and laziness as the reason. Totally untrue: at that level of education, if a whole class fails an exam, you blame the instructor, not the students. Regardless, she is totally unresponsive to students legitimate concerns and complaints. It's truly if she lives in her own world (one where she has tenure, of course).

Do yourself a favor and actively avoid her classes.

Great person, horrible instructor

Dr. Martin is one of the nicest people outside of class. She is concerned about her students and takes an active interest in their well-being as people and as students.

But she is a horrible, horrible instructor. She seems to really get off on hazing students. She and her assistants all seem to love to make students lives more difficult than they need to be (as if being a pharmacy student isn't difficult enough already). She can be extremely rude and demeaning to students, sometimes putting them down in front of whole classes or groups of people. That isn't right.

What she demands of students is that they learn the trivial parts of pharmacy practice, not the whole. The group/homework assignments are terrible. They are truly an exercise in trying to exhaust all your homework time than teaching you anything. And it all seems to be a big exercise in making students kiss up to her and her assistants.

It's all too sad because, as I mentioned eariler, Dr. Martin is such a fantastic person outside of class. That is why it is so mystifying why she is such a horrible person when it comes to instruction, a real Jekyl-and-Hyde thing. She really should stop teaching. But until then, try to avoid her classes.

Very knowledgeble, tough teacher

Very knowledgeble. Expects students to have a good grasp of organic chemistry and to learn a lot. Doesn't teach any cupcake/easy classes.

One-on-one, talks fast and is very blunt (but not rude). Have specific questions in mind before you go to talk to him for classwork help. Doesn't like students to waste his time. If he likes you, that is a real plus.

Fair grader, but tough. Will give partial credit (almost to full credit) if you justify your answer with logical reasoning/good explanation even if it isn't the correct reason/explanation. If you grasp organic chem well, you will do when in his lectures/classes.
