I had a remarkably easy time with Mr. Midura who made getting through one of the most feared requirements a piece of cake. The course required various in class activities related to speaking along with 4 major speeches which had to be 4-5 minutes each. We were required to have an outline and allowed to speak with it but not allowed to write out our speech. The grading scale bottoms out at a 6/10 which means as long as you give it you aren't going to fail. The exams were based on highlighted material in the book and weren't difficult at all. Mr. Midura understands that no one really wants to be there but he takes a drab subject and imports a great understanding of it. He is an excellent speaker and this keeps the class interesting throughout, if you want to lessen the stress take him.

Get in Shape the Right Way

Mr. Carrol definitely knows how to pump you up. This class is an abbreviated version of HLTH101 with a physical element as well. That means the time is split between working out in the school gym and lectures, which is a great benefit to your body and keeps you from boredom. Mr. Carrol is upbeat and confident about the subject matter having a lifetime of experience in it and everything he says is worth hearing. There is a small lab fee and this goes towards a treadmill test to help determine how in-shape you are. You learn many different ways of working out, stretching, even a full day devoted to working out every part of the abdomen. The tests are multiple choice and fill in the blank that is well reviewed beforehand. The other aspect of the grade is how many workouts you put in and passing a test to keep your heart rate up for 25 minutes (easily done by the end of the course, I went in only being able to do 5 minutes). This class is far more helpful than health is to keeping yourself healthy and Mr. Carrol doesn't make it like high school gym class, he makes it about maximizing your personal fitness level and developing a routine to keep you healthy until death.

Enlightening Experience

This lab class is a great experience for anyone considering the environmental science field or just to heighten awareness. There isn't much lab activity, this class consists mostly of going on field trips to different environmental sites such as water treatment plants and wildlife reserves. The work load consists of answering questions during the tours and doing a short lab write up that is rather pointless as there isn't much of an experiment in going on a field trip. The exams are just a review of the questions and the only other thing is a short presentation on an aspect of the Chesapeake Bay. Mrs. DeStefano has a good relationship with the places visited and this leads to a friendly learning environment to the interesting locations.

Cure for Insomnia

This class was without a doubt the most boring and worthless experience I've had at the college level. After leaving this class I would feel as if I hadn't gotten any sleep the night before for the rest of the day. This is because of the way Mr. Brathwaite conducted the class. He would tell us to read material and no one would do it so we'd read out of the book during classtime. He would ask questions and call on whoever made eye contact with him, by the end of the semester everyone had their heads down the whole time. The papers were typical fare for an English class but we didn't get much assistance in writing them during class. He has a thick accent that makes it a bit difficult to understand but his handwriting is practically illegible and the papers come back clean as they were handed in, no feedback just a grade. The midterm and exam were in class essays that were announced beforehand so it was fairly simple, but take my advice and find a different teacher. It simply isn't worth the total disruption of motivation to do anything you walk out with.

Increases your awareness...

Mrs. DeStephano represented the field of environmental science very well in this class. All of her lectures were done on powerpoint but she didn't just read off them, she added interesting related facts and gave good analogies to make the material easier to understand. There were quizzes most days based off of case studies in the textbook, but otherwise the textbook wasn't really needed. The tests required good understanding of the material, it was split between multiple choice, short answer, and matching. The final was not cumulative which was a major benefit since there is a lot of information as in any science class. There was a research paper done on an environmental issue but it didn't have to be very long, only about 5 pages. Bottom line, if you aren't a science major and need a credit this and the lab is the easiest way to go. If you're interested in the field you'll get the knowledge you want, so either way this is an excellent choice.

Brightens a Boring Class

CINS101 is boretown for anyone who has used a computer before such as me. Ms. Comet tried her best to make it interesting and take out the petty annoyances typical to classes like this. There was homework in the form of projects but these could be easily completed in class if you didn't run off the moment you finished the day's work in the computer lab portion of the class. Ms. Comet even cut out a couple of the projects listed on the syllabus. She was very open to student questions and very helpful in assisting those who had problems. The midterm involved some pretty basic multiple choice, fill in the blanks on things like 'name an input device,' and explanations of how to do things such as separating toolbars in microsoft word. The final was about 30 multiple choice on a scantron and half the questions from the midterm, I finished it in under 10 minutes. If you need to take this class taking Ms. Comet will be a pain/stressless and informative experience.

Good times ahead..

Mr. Cunningham makes history interesting. He tells corny jokes and adds in interesting facts such as the points of the two large pyramids in egypt cutting the world's land mass in half. He has a habit of making eye contact with people for a few seconds as he lectures which I've heard makes some students uncomfortable but wasn't a big deal to me. The only bad part is these videos with this hard-to-understand guy lecturing and slides but these are rare. There is no homework except to write 5 two page (double spaced) papers comparing a modern event to a boxed document in the book which is very simple. The exams are all multiple choice/true false or fill in a blank (few of these) and the final is 80 of these questions from throughout the semester. What I still remember surprises me and always makes for interesting conversation or deeper understanding of historical events. I came out of this class feeling I got my money's worth, which is a rare feeling.

Welcome back to High School...

Before I review this guy the circumstances of my class were we started out with a teacher who died, and Geisler took over after a month so various things can be forgiven as expected.

Unfortunately Geisler was straight out of high school teaching and this showed in everything he did. He seemed enthusiastic about the subject but taught out of the book and.. cringe.. assigned problems from it nightly also wanted us to pick favorite sentences and a bunch of other time consuming worthless crap. This was supposed to be a writing class but we spent most of it interpreting literature and the essays we did write had BARELY ANY comments on them when they were returned, we also had to turn in brainstorming and rough drafts peer edited.. He kept talking about how he had a life and that's why he took forever to return papers blah blah blah. The class was totally disorganized (probably due to him being rushed in) but he would assign homework and forget to collect it, and when it's answering stupid book questions that really hurts. At the end of the semester he had us "mark up" stories instead of writing a research paper marking what adjectives were and what adjectives modified which verbs and stuff like that. This wasn't bad but he gave us 10 page front/back fine print stories and expected this practically overnight. The exams were remembering authors to the book stories including student essays, book vocab from it, identifying if a sentence was a metaphor/simile/personification, and very easy true false. the final was marking up some 4 page front/back fine print story and about 100 questions from exams. If you already know how to write and just want to breeze through a class more simple than your high school english was then take this, however if you want to be treated like a college student and get something out of the class look elsewhere. His teaching may have changed with him having time to put a syllabus together and so forth but that was my experience.

Learned so much

Professor Masterson was a hard teacher who taught me a lot about literature. Previous to this class, I dreaded any literature or English class, but I learned so much in the class and now love the subject. His humor kept us all awake during the late night class, and his insight and teachings showed us not only how to understand a work better, but more importantly to trust ourselves in our evaluations of it and how to best express it.
