The best place to find the best professors

History of TeacherReview/TeacherReviews/CourseReviews

CourseReviews starts as two web sites created on opposite sides of the country, but sharing very similar names and goal: to provide valuable information to students to make better decisions about courses and professors.

September 1997

Ryan Lathouwers, a computer science student at City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University, launches TeacherReview.com, which covered the two schools he attended.

May 1999

Dylan Greene, a computer science student at the University of Maryland, launches TeacherReviews.com, the first review site to cover nearly every college and university in the world.

Summer 1999

TeacherReview.com merges with TeacherReviews.com.  All reviews from TeacherReview are moved to TeacherReviews.  Ryan rebuilds the code for TeacherReviews.com.

Fall 1999

City College of San Francisco professor files suit against TeacherReview, objecting to what students had to say about his teaching. ACLU-NU press release. Suit is later withdrawn.

Fall 2000

TeacherReviews grows to include over 50,000 reviews from colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada and many other countries.

Winter 2003 - Fall 2005

TeacherReviews threatened with a lawsuit by a professor who was unhappy with certain student reviews. Dylan Greene, the founder of TeacherReviews forced disable the ability to enter new reviews in the face of this potential lawsuit because of concerns about the cost of defending himself in court.

Fall 2005

Mark Miller joins Dylan Greene, Dylan moves to full-time on CourseReviews and revamps the site. The name is changed to CourseReviews to better reflect focus on the academic experience first and the individual professor second.

Winter 2005

CourseReviews press release to 850 colleges and universities that new site is up and available. Focus is on all post secondary educational programs including campus based, online/distance learning and blended.
