Mrs. Hanson is an excellent lecturer and creates a dynamic, outstanding classroom environment. I had her for two courses actually - Small Group Communication and University Honors Thesis. I made an A in both courses. If you have a hard time making an A in this lady's class then you should evaluate why that is so. She provides a multitude of learning opportunities... all you have to do is seize them.

Sandy Hanson is an incredible teacher, atleast for Org. Comm. anyway. She provides understandable examples for every concept she introduces and hands out study guides to better focus your studying for the tests. The final project is not fully explained in class, but if you approach her with questions, she will be more than willing to help in any way.

she picks favorites for sure. make sure you pay attention to what she had planned, because she NEVER tells you when things are due. many unimportant tests are given, and she is critical on the speeches.

I had this class with Hanson over a year ago. It was a nightmare. I always felt like an idiot during and after speeches. There is no doubt that she is a great speaker and knows her stuff. But this is a REQUIRED course, not everyone wants to major in communications, it is an intro level course and is graded much harder. I ended up with a B in this course but A's in upper level courses. Weird huh? Yeah that's what i said. This would be good person to take if you had a light course load. The speeches are harder than you think too.

If you have a choice in the matter, do not take INTRO TO SPEECH with SANDY HANSON. The class is terrible. She is terrible. The whole d*** thing is terrible. Her grading is biased. Her tests are way too overrated. You will be lucky to make a C. I have had speaking experience for many years throughout my lifetime - I know the in's and out's of winning speaking contests. I got a C in the class. She's telling me that I have AVERAGE knowledge of something when my experience should get me an A. I have this theory that her grading is pre-determined too. Every grade I recieve, homework or speaking is an 80 to begin with. I receive an 80, an 8/10, or a 16/20 on everything. This means that if you make less on anything, you get a C. Her class is a waste of time and an insult to anyone's intelligence. DO NOT DO THIS TO YOURSELF!!!!

The teacher is a very good speaker but she grades the introductory course as a third level class.Exams are based on memory and not understanding.

There is no denying that Sandy Hanson is very enthusiastic about teaching public speaking. Where she fails is in teaching this INTRODUCTORY class as if it were a 3rd level class for majors or minors in Communications. Her grading is extremely harsh for an 1101 class, it is inconsistent from one person to another, and her grading is ambiguous. For instance, she has taken off points from one person's speech for not moving around enough and took off points from another one's for moving around too much. There are a required 7 speeches in the class, and if you are not perfect in every aspect, she will not give you an A. Again, this class is run like a 3rd level class. Do not take Sandy Hanson and expect to get an A unless you are an expert at public speaking.
