Dr Balakin is the type of teacher that challenges you to look deeper into chemistry than just the chemistry book. His lectures are not straight to the point and His test are very tough. He is very fair when it comes to grading as long as he can clearly see that you study and can retain the material, but You really need to know your stuff when test and quiz time comes. You will definitely be very well introduced to chemistry when you finish chem 32 in Balakin's class. He comes off as tough and stern, but he really want's you to do well in his class. At the beginning of the semester, I was contemplating dropping the class; However, by the end of the semester I was so glad I stayed in the class. I would recommend Dr Balakin for chem 32, but be prepared for a long arduous semester and lots of studying. I think that The reward of what you've learned at the end will be well worth it.

He is a horrible teacher. I am taking Chem 32 this semester. His lectures don't coincide with his test, He is very unapproachable, Does not care if you are learning or not, just wants to stay on track with the syllabus. Every test so far that we have taken, has been 20% material that we have not even covered yet. I am warning you, if you want to pass Chemistry 32 make sure you take it with another professor. His lectures always go overtime, about 15 or 20 minutes also. He does appear to be very knowledgeable in the subject; However, he definitely does not teach it well. I regret taking his class for Chemistry 32. Hopefully this rating will prevent anyone else from making the mistake of taking Balakin for Chem 32.
