I thoroughly enjoyed this class. The class discussions were thought provoking and interesting, the lecture material was well-organized and conveyed in a clear manner. I have to admit that I never once opened the text book because his lectures and handouts covered everything I needed to know. (HINT: Take excellent class notes and save yourself the money on the book -- or I can sell you a never-used one for a song.) Overall, Mr. Baum is intelligent, organized and fair -- very fair. He honestly couldn't have made it easier for students to succeed. He even provides a study sheet in advance of each exam and, if you know what is on the sheet, you will ace the test. I felt that he was overly-kind to some of the slackers in the class, but he is the type of guy who will give you the better grade if he knows you tried, and that's cool. At the end of the day, most of the material covered was added to my knowledge base as opposed to being purged after the final. I recommend taking his class because you will always know where you stand and if you follow the extraordinarily clear instructions, go to class and take good notes, you will come out with a good grade and more knowledge.

other reviewers had a different experience because I found this teacher very boring. He reads from notes so if your friend took this class before just get their notes and you will do well. Tests were a joke too.If you can stand the pain of boredom itis an easy grade.

No comments. He is a great teacher, very liberal and friendly. If all teachers were just like him, the college would be a much better place. He explains material in details, gives a lot of interesting examples and comments. The atmosphere in class is relaxing; absolutelly no preasure, he welcomes different oppinions. Homeworks and assignments are clear. I found this class very useful. My overal grade to Rick is A.

Rick's a great teacher. His lectures are well-organized, interesting and often humorous. The tests are challenging, but not difficult to get good grades on. The essays are all take-home. The class project is clearly defined. His grades are fair. He is willing to answer questions and shows a great amount of flexibility and friendliness to his students. This is a great class for good listeners. The textbook is excellent. Rick tells some great jokes...I see a comedian in the making.

Rick Baum choses an interesting textbook for this class. It was actually an enjoyable read! He gives good lectures but can talk a little too fast at times. He attempts to get people's opinions on topics and brings up some interesting topics for discussion. He has a friendly personality. There are three tests which he gives study sheets for. There was one outside project which he gave options for. Basically, it required a report about political literature, movies or activity. He's a great teacher and you would definitely enjoy his class and come away with a good understanding of American Government.
