The worst teacher I ever had

Yes, Anatomy 25 is a difficult class because of the tremendous amount of information one has to memorize and learn. But, Mrs. Fung makes it the most boring class. She has no passion for teaching, is deeply annoyed when you ask questions, or at best has no answer for your questions.

Unfortunately, her famous sense of humor relies on references to her husband's sex interest and TV shows. She is notoriously not available during lab work, preferring her book or text messaging, or isolating herself in her office chatting with her pet students while the struggling others chase her around to figure out the lab materials.

She not only discourages you from taking the class, but also offers no help in keeping you in the class. The attrition rate was spectacular !

My recommendation: choose a teacher with a passion for her students and her area of expertise, even if the teacher is disorganized. Mrs. Fung is organized to a default; she covered all the material she wanted with no regard for her students, and tested them the following class. Also one should forget discovering the endocrine system and basic embryology; these two chapters were not included in the semester lectures of Mrs. Fung.

She makes Anat easier for you to study

At the first class, she frightened us, but I think she just wanted us to be prepared because Anat25 is not easy at all. She lectures quite fast but the best thing is she writes her notes while lecturing. She condenses the materials and make them easier for you to study. 4 lec exams include the final, 3 lab exams and 1 muscle quiz. Lecture exams are 100points each, 40questions multiple choice, and 20points writing (very short answers, filling, matching). lab exams are all written (short answers). They're almost based on her lecture (notes). she's nice with a sense of humor. If you have any trouble studying in her class, talk to her, she'll help you out. Interesting class, study hard, you'll get good grades, and learn a lot.

Anatomy 25 is a touch class whoever teaches!

If you're looking for a "good" teacher for Anatomy 25 at CCSF, I think Dr Fung is a good pick. However, you have to keep it in mind that WHOEVER TEACHES THE CLASS, ANATOMY 25 IS A TOUGH SUBJECT. Dr. Fung emphasized how tough the class would be on the first day and she proved it right soon after the class started. If you are NOT determined, youre likely to get lost easily.

This class requires pure memorization (according to Dr. Fung, you don't "memorize" but "LEARN" materials), so you have to spend A LOT OF time learning the materials. You have to memorize unbelievably a lot of things!! I spent a couple of hours everyday for this class, making flash cards, utilizing visual help such as a "coloring book", and making "special notes" myself.

She writes everything she wants us to memorize (or according to her, again "learn"), so all you need is to copy whatever she writes on the transparencies. Dont miss even a thing! If you take notes well and spend reasonable time to review materials you can get a good grade.

Basically, I have no complains about her class once I got used to her teaching method. At the beginning, I was a bit bothered because she kept writing thorughout the class time and students had to copy them all. Thats why her class sometimes got boring. Also she tends to speak fast and goes over materials so quickly. Lots of students (including myself) didnt comprehend some materials because we were busy copying what she wrote. However, considering the amount of stuff you have to learn such as muscles, bones and well. EVERYTHING, I think she presented materials the best and easiest way she could for us. (She doesnt follow the sequence of the textbook - she changes orders of the materials). Yet there are TOO MANY things to deal with for a semester, though Study VERY HARD once you get into muscle section. Lots of students dropped before and after the muscle quiz.

She acted very touch and looked grumpy at first, but dont get intimidated. As you get to know her, she started to show her real personality funny side of her. I suppose she only wants serious students in her class so she discouraged (or warned) students on the first day.

As I said earlier, I dont have complains about her class, but there would be one unsatisfactory part of her class. She should revise (or update) the lab manual that you have to buy. It does not meet standard as a text book used under a classroom setting. It contains missing pages and lots of typos. Contents themselves are good so she should go over the manual. It just doesnt look professional.

Overall, if youre committed and ready to study hard, her class is for you. Dont blame her if you dont get a good grade. You know this class is tough. You have only to study HARD.

It's a job, not an adventure.

I'd agree with the first 3 reviews combined. She's articulate, very knowledgable, organized, and doesn't dawdle. Be prepared to work in this class or don't bother. She does play a bit hardball, but no more so than an employer might, so even though we're used to school being a bit lax in many ways, her class is like a job. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her, though, you'll learn your stuff with her. Read ahead!

Not so hot.

Dr. Fung tried to scare the class on the very first day. She stated that if you were an English major, you shouldn't be taking a science class which I feel is highly discouraging. Shouldn't everyone be able to learn and enjoy the sciences? She's an okay teacher, but you can tell she's inexperienced because she tries to intimidate her students and acts tough. If you have to miss class she makes you bring in documentation, once I had to bring her a airline ticket as proof of a business trip. The ANAT 25 class spent so much time on the skeletal system (Dr. Fung is a chiropractor) and she breezed over other sections of the course. I didn't feel that I learned as much as I could have because the class was taught in such a dry manner and didn't give a good overall picture of the human body. I did well in her class, but I feel like she didn't really want anyone to succeed because she wanted to be viewed as a "hard teacher." I think she has potential to get better as she gains more experience, she's very organized, but the ANAT class needs some serious improvment.

I highly recommend Dr. Fung's class!

I highly recommend Dr. Fung's ANAT 25 class! She breaks down the material in the book so that it's more manageable and easier to grasp. She encourages interaction and does quick reviews in the beginning of each class on previous lecture materials, which helps you know in a nut shell how much info you've retained and how much you need to hit the books.

She makes herself available if you have any questions and is up front about what you need to know and what you need to study for on exams. If you study and make an effort, you should be fine. Muscles were a killer though.

Tips: You won't need to know certain things in the book in that much detail, so skim the text before class, then read over in depth the material that Dr. Fung emphasizes in lecture. Make flash cards, and make good use of lab time. It helps to work together. Stay till the end. It often doesn't end up being enough time actually. You'll learn this as exams come up.

Also, it seems like Dr. Fung is a "toughy" on the outside in the beginning, but as you get to know her and talk to her, she's quite funny and down to earth.

Tracey Rocks!

Dr. Fung is excellent. She is a great teacher and I got alot out of her class. Her tests are a bit on the difficult side based on what I've heard when comparing to other instructors, but perhaps she just has higher expectations of her students. Overall, I'd highly recommend her class to anyone... just don't slack off especially when it comes to muscles, thier attachments, points of origin and innervations!!
