This guy is the man. His lectures at time s can be confusing but they are organized and easy to record in your notes. However, it doesn't really matter about the lectures due to the fact that this guy gives out a fucking study guide with all the answers on it..literally...its like butter baby the test questions are almost completely identical. Also sometimes he might not give in class exams, he will give take homes. The take homes are challenging but hey they are take home which means you can use your book and handouts along with other sources. This guy also has a great sense of humor and cracks jokes alot in class. Lastly if you like the 49ers... you are his best friend.

Mr. Gutherie has the difficult task of keeping students engaged in what can at times by dry material. In my opinion, he does a great job. His lectures are straight forward. He uses lots of slides and other visual aides but the material goes by fast. I strongly suggest an audio recorder b/c it's impossible to catch everything he's saying. The labs are pretty much self driven with the help of his manuals, Mr. Gutherie is also available for assistance when students get stuck. Before each written test he gives out a study guide. The test questions are taken from the study guide. The lab tests are instense and difficult. The good news is that there's no surprises. He lets you know what is expected and if you study enough you'll do great in his class.

Professor Guthrie is an expert anatomist. I would definitely recommend taking him, and he makes it easy for students who work hard to get A's. Write everything he says down, don't ask silly questions, and show him that you can work hard and that you want to be there. The lecture exams were very easy, based on multiple choice hand outs, but the lab practicals were very difficult and required a lot of studying. A tape recorder might be advised for his lectures. Also, don't take his sometimes off humor seriously - he is a nice guy. He might need a sabatical, though, he needs a break from teaching the same material semester after semester, and it shows. But try to take advantage of his knowledge of human anatomy - ask intelligent questions and he will spend time and much effort trying to help you understand how things work.

First of all, i'd like to point out that Mr. Guthrie is a very understanding individual and i think he has quite a bit of knowledge and experience with teaching. It was his Anthro 1 class that inspired me to become an Anthropology major because i love the subject! However, Anatomy 25 was a completely different ballgame entirely!
I'll admit that i was somewhat skeptical of taking this class even before it began because i had some very bad lab experiences previously in high school, but i decided to give it another shot anyway. Anatomy 25 was probably the worst choice i could have made as far as fulfilling my lab requirement for IGETC because i put myself under 3 times more pressure than i ever really needed to. I basically made my life miserable for 4 months. Mr. Guthrie was not helpful at all in this class. I felt that his lectures were rushed (that's an understatement), the labs were dreadfully painful (and frustrating) and i never felt that i really knew the material. I think it was the labs that i dreaded the most, not only because they were for three grueling hours on a Tuesday, but also because i never received the proper guidance on how to be successful with the lab assignments, and i almost never got the chance to grab his attention to get help because the labs were overcrowded and everyone was asking him so many silly questions all at once. And to top it all off, the material in the class in general was just not interesting in the least.
The class seemed like a foreign language to me because i never really understood what was going on, especially in the labs. Also, when Mr. Guthrie would decide to randomly lecture about something in the labs, it was not only hard to hear him but he would point to certain things on a cadaver, or whatever, and i could barely even see what he was doing! Then he would recite microscopic muscle after microscopic muscle and expect us to be able to memorize everything lickity split and with very little guidance afterwards. That just wasn't possible, and 3 quarters of the way through the semester, i simply resigned myself to the fact that Anatomy absolutely WASN'T the right choice for me. Only trouble is i love science. How good i am in it is another story.
Sadly, i ended up learning very little in this course if anything, not to mention detesting the course by the last month. It almost felt like a two semester course crammed into 4 months. But i still went to every single lecture, and every single miserable lab session and tried my best to understand what i could.
I know professors aren't there to hold your hand and i would never expect them to be, but Mr. Guthrie could have been a lot more realistic and helpful about the subject he was dealing with and how dense and dry the material was. The 3 lab practicals were probably the most humiliating experiences in the class for me because i guessed at more than half of the questions on each exam. And that was NOT because i didn't study. I studied all the time for this class. And it didn't help! Frankly, this class made me feel stupid because i had such a hard time making sense of the material and the only thing keeping my grade up were the numerous lecture exams that were taken from the textbook. To this minute, i don't know how in hell i managed to pull a B in this class, but it was by the skin of my teeth, i'm sure. Also, the fact that Mr. Guthrie taught in such a disjointed manner didn't help either. I came to class angry much of the time because i couldn't see the big picture of what he was trying to get across. I was too obsessed with trying to memorize the smallest, most miniscule details of muscles and bones just so i could barely pass the lab practicals.
Bottom line: I would NOT recommend Anatomy 25 at all! The class is frustrating and god help you if you're not interested in the material! Makes it that much harder. I would definitely recommend Mr. Guthrie for Anthropology 1 however. That's what he should stick to!

most people should like this class. you get to do a take-home exam. he lets you know what is expected of you and with a little effort you can get a good grade. he cracks a few jokes and overall his lectures are interesting. definitely a great class to take to fullfill IGETC and learn about anthropology

He's a nice, funny old man. He tried his best to make the lecture interesting. After all, not too many people will fine studing hundreds of different kind of monkeys interesting at all. Only one or two assignments over the semester(just something real easy, e.g. fill in the blanks). Everything was take home: assigments, tests, mid-term, final, may be even himself if you ask. Promise an A if you spend time to do the tests and exams.

He's an easy teacher. I took him cause I just needed the credits and I think he's great to take. I dunno if he's a good idea if you're majoring in bio anthro but you do learn a bit from this class. I got an A in the class but I did have to put a little effort in with the take-home assignments since they were the basis for the tests. But he's a nice, fun guy and you should give him a try.

Very interesting class. No homework. No reading (unless there is a test). Very few tests. Tests tested for knowledge very well. For some tests, all the test questions were given ahead of time. He gives you 80, lets say, and he will randomly pick XX amount of them and put them on the test. Very relaxed class, and I learned *a lot*.
