Mr. Hayes is the best teacher I have ever seen. He teaches his class everything he got from writing reading to thinking. don't miss out on this teacher it's a class of a life time.

After reading the comments on this board, I have some experiences to tell you from my heart. I took his evening class at Mission campuse in 2004. I agree the part of justices that he is a nice guy. The disagreement is he pay exstra attention on his suits rather than on his lectures. Yes, he would like us to join in a discussion group and then we had to suffer from listening to the heavily accented English all the time. We even did not know what our classmates tried to say because we were ESL 140 students. And at the same time, he just stood somewhere with his typical smile and none knew where his mind was going to. He even did not like to concern what topics we were discussing because he did not understand them either. In the grammar section, he would like to teach something that you had knew well and would not like to answer any question. Remember, please do not embarrass him in front of your classmates. You would be punihed by quizzes later. We did not finish the bule grammar book because he said it was impossible. In the reading section, he would like let student to read for him and never correct the pronunciation because he did not know where we were. It was his break time, please leave him alone. In the writing section, it is a horrible section. Each essay has only one draft and he did not encourage you to rewrite your essay after he peered it. I have ever tried to do so but he never retuned my second draft back. I have to give him a little higher grade because I want you have opportunity to read it and to save your money for your schooling. Good luck!

He understands how a (ESL) student thinks and feel. His lectures are fun. He is patient and thoughtful.

Its true that Mr. Earl Hayes is a very nice, friendly guy and smiles all the time; absolutely, he is good at speech too. In contrast, therere SOME PROBLEMS in his teaching methods. He paid too much attention to discuss some out of topic questions in class and waits too much time. In a word, he talked a lot of something else and taught nothing even sometimes he forgot totally what he was talking about. Im sorry to say that he is such a lazy bone who might be taught lower English level or speech courses only. Why & How? He didnt prepare well for the classes. Moreover, most of the handout essays were written right away in class and there was ONLY ONE out of class essay, which was also only one draft. Therefore, most of the students could neither get higher grades nor improve their writing skills in a good helping way. Comparing to aLL my C or D essay grades in ESL 140 with instructor Mr. Hayes and now in ESL 150 (different instructor) most of the essays grade are B+, I would like to say it out the truth that Mr. Hayes is too lazy to be a good teacher and need work harder in his teaching. In a brief, taking an ESL composition course, we students do need someone really teaches well and prepares well for the class with his or her whole heart not just earn money, please.

ok, first of all he is the best english teacher that ive ever met! especially his personality wow is really great and he is kind to everybody, i mean he is a totally warmhearted guy. his teaching skill is cool and easy to understand and if you have some question about his lecturing, then ask that to him, he'll answer that with detailed explaination and his sense of humor. oh what i forgot telling you guys is that he is a funny guy. once you take his class, you would always learn something form him with smiling. more thing that i can tell you guys is he want to know about several cultural thoughts like asian cultures maxican culture and so on. andand he knows lots of maxican language lol really funny. actually i am not a maxican but using another language instead of english makes him funny, really.
i'm sorry i suck at english but i feel like i have improved my writing skill during his class. that was great! if you need something that you want him to help you, just ask him. he'll help you. in my case, at the end of his first class i asked him,"how to improve my english like writing and communicating, can you help me" and then he said "yes" after that he has helped me a lot of times. i still appreciate that.
however, i got a 'B' so what i want to say is his grading was pretty tough though, but maybe that is not a big problem because every esl teacher's grading is sucks. as i compare with other esl teacher, he is still great.
if you have a chance to take his class, that would be a once in a life time opportunity(i do a little exgagerate it lol), but thats true, you wont feel like i should have taken another teacher's class! no doubt
