Take her! Best teacher for math 110B or 110C

Ni is the best calculus teacher at CCSF. She explains the material well and works hard to get everyone to understand the concepts. She doesnt collect homework, but to pass calculus you have to do the homework to understand the material. She gives 4 or 5 tests and a final, and does not drop any of the tests, but it is not hard to get an A if you study. Get into her class fast, as it tends to fill quickly.

She's available for help or tutoring too! Oh and she just got married... her new last name is Peterkofsky (sp?).

The best algebra teacher on campus

Dr Hornor is a very, very good teacher. After failing Math 840 - partly due to my own sloth, and partly due to the indescribably bad experience that is Jimmy Kan - I took 840 over with Dr Hornor. She is great.

She's not easy - I've practically wanted to cry after her pen flashed over my tests, marking off point after point. She is a stickler for being on time. Basically, this makes her an actual college professor, and not a grade-inflating easybeat, the kind which can be common at CCSF.

But she will help you. Ask her a question, and she'll explain it. She knows Math 840 isn't easy (even if it is for her), and she'll give you tips and tricks to make problems more solvable. She'll give you a second chance if you're willing to work at it and grab it - I passed the class after I sat down and worked at a final exam, studiously checking every problem.

She does have a Chinese accent, but it's pretty managable if you've lived in this town, and it's not a patch on some of the other math teachers. I had no problem understanding her, and I'm not Chinese/Asian-American.

Very Clear... Very Honest... and Very Caring.

I am not going to sit here and write how "beautiful" and "magical" Ms. Hornor/now Peterkofsky is as a teacher, because those are not the appropriate words to describe this lady. NI is not the teacher for you if you tend to learn things slow and expect to go at a snale-pace speed. NI is the teacher for you if you CAN CATCH ON quick to formulas, strategies, etc.. NI will not forget about you in the class... but she will move forward with new material when the class shows they are ready. NI is very serious and passionate about MATH... she WANTS YOU TO SUCCEED but she expects you to practice and CATCH ON QUICK. I have never been good in math, but it took a lot of discipline and patience for me to really focus on passing this course. I learned a lot in MATH 840 with NI... but it did take a lot of work. THINGS TO KNOW: NI goes over the material quickly, but she does go over the material very thoroughly. IF you FALL BEHIND and ARE LAZY... you will be lost... A GUARANTEE. IF YOU TAKE NOTES and REALLY PRACTICE, class will not be difficult. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE THE SMARTEST PERSON IN MATH TO PASS THIS CLASS... YOU JUST HAVE TO DO THE WORK... plain and simple. IF YOU ARE SLOW and EXPECT TO STOP THE CLASS TO GO OVER MATERIAL EVERY MINUTE OF THE DAY... this isnt YOUR CLASS TO TAKE. NI MOVES QUICKLY THROUGH THE MATERIAL, but make no mistake, if you show up to class... take the notes and formulas she goes over in class... and if you pay attention... you will succeed in this class. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ARE THE KIND OF LEARNER WHO NEEDS PERSONAL ONE on ONE ASSISTANCE TO UNDERSTAND... because there is a lot of material to be covered in this class... and NI goes over them all at a very consistent pace. SHE IS A VERY CONSISTENT TEACHER... if you like learning at a smooth and moderate pace... this class is for you.

Excellent instructor

Dr. Horner is the best math instructor I have ever had. Her lectures are clear and logical and she explains each step in solving problems.

Dr. Horner gives you plenty of time for exam preparation and there are no surprises come test time. In addition, she grades exams fairly and will review with you the areas in which you need work.

She encourages all of her students to seek her help for question etc. outside of class and also supports the free tutoring center on campus (Ocean).

If you are a student that "hates" math Dr. Horner will change you mind. If you are a natural math student, I'm confident that you will continue to succeed under the guidance of this wonderful teacher.

Good teacher but she was unfair to me (in my view)

Although Hornor is a very good teacher and explains the material till you know it, i think she graded me unfair. I think this woman hates me or something because i am 5 min late to class or something which would lower my grade a little bit but i never knew that it would do this much damage compared to when i took her last semester. The first time i took her i failed my test and was still late. and still receieved a D (i was very very lazy that semester). so i retook her again because i went to a tutor and knew the material better than last year, got decent scores of 80's or sometimes a bad 60. i mean i was late yea, but this woman still gave me a D. last year i understand the grade that i received last year, but this fall semester i am PISSED. i think she's just being unfair to me. but if you do take her she is good. that or there's something wrong with me.

SWEETHEART

What an easy class. She assigns some homework after each lecture, but they are not required to turn in. However, all the tests (Between 5 to 20 questions) are from the homework that she assigned. If you want an A in this class, then you will have to do the homework. She has a great personality & sense of humor. TAKE HER, NO REGRET!!!!!

Very organized and nice teacher

Professor Hornor so far is the best math teacher I've had at CCSF. She likes to lecture using an overhead and her writing is very neat. The lectures are well organized and I felt that we went at a moderate pace. She always has time to answer homework questions, just don't be afraid to speak up! In general, the calculus classes are difficult so you have to do all the homework. She's a sweet person and her tests are usually some variation of the homework problems. Overall, good teacher.

Get A is not hard!!!

Do you want to take Math 110B class but think the course is too hard? If you do, i strongly recommand you to take Mrs.Hornor's class. Some students might complain about her Chinese-English, but in fact, that doesn't bother you too much because Mrs.Hornor has a clear handwriting and her lecture is detailed and esay to understand. Besides these, easily getting high grades is also another significant thing I have to mention. Because the Qs in those 4-5 chapter exams are most from the textbook, and you will have already done them as homework, more than 70% of the students in her class get A as final grade.

I believe if you can not get a high grade in her class, pls do not try to take other math classes, and go home straightly.

The best teacher there is...

Dr. Hornor is the greatest math teacher I ever had. She is down-to-earth and i love the way how she teaches until you know the material. She is not racist, sexist or anything, she just wants you to pass the class to continue into another advanced stage. she won't give up unless you give up yourself. if you want to learn, you should take this teacher.

Knows what she's teaching

Great teacher!!! She's defiantly an instructor I would recommend to everyone. She teaches at the class's pace and explains her material very clearly. Despite that she didn't like me very much, whether it was because I was late once and a while or because I'm a non-Asian, she knows her material and that's all that matters.

GREAT teacher!!!

This teacher was born to teach! I had her in 840 and now in 860 and she is just great. She might go a little slow sometimes, however, she makes sure the her students understand the basic concepts of mathmatics. She only assigns homework problems that are going to be absolutely necessary in order to get the concept of that chapter with other words not a ton of homework. She always goes over homework problems if somebody had a problem solving a problem. She is definitley the teacher for everybody that does not like math very much I tell you after taking her you are going to like math a lot more. She is trying to give students confident when it comes to math.

She's great!

Ni Horner (her married name I'm sure) is a great teacher. She only teaches you things you will need to know to continue on in Algebra 90 (advanced algebra). On her tests, she only takes problems from the book. Some tests are even multiple choice. She takes a lot of the pressure off learning Math. I believe she's an effective teacher. Though she assigns homework daily, when we are covering a more complex chapter, she doesn't assign homework until she has explained it to us fully.

She is the best of the best!

Dr.Ni Hornor, a Chinese womam, has taught in CCSF as a Mach instructor for only several years, but she is becoming one of the most popular teachers in our campus. Her expaining of the material in the book is very clear. Even though some students complain she teaches so slowly, through her expaining a problem again and again, every hard question in Calculus 110A/110B is just like a piece of the cake. AND the best thing is her exams are sooooo easy, which makes 70% students get A on the test. I RECOMMAND U TO TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU WANT A EASY LIFE.
