Dr. Kitchel is tremendously passionate about teaching, and highly devoted to his students. Once, he told the class that the only reason he has his job is because of us (the students). He is pretty strict, in the sense that he wants us to keep all notes, homework and worksheets in a binder and in a specific manner. At that time, I was critical and defiant about the binder technique, considering it a waste of time. It was only during graduate school that I learned the importance of such organization. He is arguably one of the best professors at City College, and one of the best that I ever had. Take him! You wouldnt regret it.

Kitchel knows how to answer students' questions. Also, he knows what to say in his class. His exams are based on the lectures that he gave out in the class. For econ 5, he will give out a review before the final exam, but this exam is very difficult. He is the best teacher that I have ever had in this boring school.

Mr. Kitchel knows his economics, proved by his presence on the many budget committees for CCSF and the state. He'll make sure you know economics too. He is a really good teacher, something rare at CCSF. He explains things clearly and has powerpoint slides to make things easy to understand. His tests are not hard, and he'll review everything for you beforehand.

Kitchel is a really good teacher. His lectures supplement the text really well, and he makes sure you know the material through easy handouts and homework. He has a loud, booming voice which makes him easy to understand. He'll explain all the formulas needed for the stats class, and he'll make it seem so easy.

You can't find anyone better than Mr. Kitchel. He's a very fair, knowledged, skillful, organized and experienced teacher. He's been working hard to make you succeed. He never misses class and all chapters in the book are reviewed. He uses projector for his lectures instead of wasting time writing on the board. This is the way you can learn a lot instead of writing a lot. He has office hours for you to ask question too. He give bonus to upgrade your grade. He's great, I learn a lot from him. His tests are very reasonable and really really fair. As long as you do all assignments in the book that he never checks, you can have 100% grade so easily. He never gives you the test that over of your head. My English is very bad but I still got an A in his class because I do all assignment in the book and prepare for the tests all the time. Overall, he's the best.

This is a great teacher. He has full knowledge on his subjects and goes about teaching his material with a positive attitude. Plus, he is one of the few teacher that gives out better math equations than the book offers.

He is a GREAT teacher. His class was the first economic class for me. However, since his lecture was so clear and his homework guided me to understand well about the materials, I could get an A. He always tried to help students and tried to give students opportunities to understand the materials. He is a excellent teacher.

This teacher is perhaps underpaid at CCSF. He can teach wherever he wants. He was born to teach, no doubt about it. I really feel very lucky I have been a student of Mr. Kitchel, and I highly recommend him to apply to other schools.

To take Econ 5 (Introductory Statistics) with Marc Kitchel is to spend a semester learning a sometimes-tough subject from a very capable instructor. Clearly dedicated to both the subject and to preparing well for each class, Mr. Kitchel gave a lot of himself every day to presenting the course at a comfortable pace, and by always dedicating himself to assisting individual students when help was needed.
Anyone who considers taking this class should be clear that it is a 4-credit class, meets every day, and requires both a lot of work and almost-perfect attendance.
Mr. Kitchel is great with the instruction, and structures his class so that each student must demonstrate hard work in order to earn a good grade. As for the instruction, Mr. Kitchel is always on, with lots of energy, and he is professional in his presentation style. He is an instructor on high octane. Further, he makes the class better by answering any & all questions, gladly meeting with students during office hours, and constantly asked our class if we understood the material before he went on to the other topics. He also has a good sense of humor, poking fun at himself from time to time. And he teaches in a manner that keeps the class moving along swiftly, and does this with "a lot" of structure. So if youre anal, youll really like his teaching style.
To do well in the class, good scores were needed on the several exams (4) along with a comprehensive final. We also kept and maintained a notebook which was graded, and class attendance and participation were also factored in. Personally, since the material gets tougher as the class moves on, I found it sensible to put a lot of effort into earning perfect scores on earlier exams before it got tougher later on. Throughout the semester, I always thought his grading structure was merciful & forgiving, allowing for partial credit when possible. So as long there is a demonstrated commitment to exams, class exercises, homework, attendance and the notebook, students see that Mr. Kitchel is very fair in his grading.
Also, as the class moves forward through the semester, Mr. Kitchel takes on speaking the language of statistics more and more. Students who don't study enough could easily get lost quickly because of his constant use of the terminology all of the time.
If there is one not-so-favorable thing I found in the class, it was that there sometimes was not enough time to finish taking the tests. However, those students in the class that clearly studied enough and were adequately prepared (better than I was), did finish in time.
I strongly recommend taking this class with Mr. Kitchel if you can get in. He takes what he does very seriously, and if you can respect that he gives a lot of himself to the course and students, youll do just fine. City College is fortunate to have Mr. Kitchel, & I think he deserves better than the pathetic excuse for an office (shoebox) than the college has provided him.
