V Mathes

Valerie Mathes was one of the most competent and intelligent teachers which CCSF had to offer. Her history courses were indubitably difficult and complex, the student was required to write a very large paper (mine were 20-25 pages) at the end of each term. You could not ask for someone more well-versed in their subject, Professor Mathes was a literal powerhouse of historical knowledge.

The State of California has gone to hell when budget cuts force community colleges to lay off professors like her, who have been there for 30+ years. Shame on you Gray Davis!

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS THAT I HAVE TAKEN AT CITY COLLEGE IT IS A SAD THING THAT SHE IS BEING FORCED TO RETIRE BECAUSE OF BUDGET CUTS...BUT YET THEY FIND THE MONEY TO KEEP THE TEACHERS THAT ARE SIMPLY JUST DOING A JOB AND NOT ENJOYING THE JOB THEY ARE DOING....MS MATHES YOU WILL BE MISSED AT CITY.THANKS FOR THE WONDERFUL SEMISTER KITTY KASTRO AKA BIG MAMA

I had the pleasure of being enrolled in several History classes taught by Dr. Mathes. She clearly knows her history. I have taken her classes on American Civilization, the Native American, and American History after the Civil War. She has an engaging style. Her passion is the Native American having been raised in New Mexico. My major while at CCSF was English; but I found her teaching skills and knowledge of American history very valuable for me to use at a later point in my career. She has a take-home portion of her exams that allow you to create a situation from the material covered...it appealed to the writer in me. I say that this college has a par-excellent instructor in Dr. Mathes.
