I have taken several classes with Mr Moreno and he is an excellent professor. Hell talk tough on the first few days about how tough his exams are but really its not hard at all. First of all 100 percent of his exam material is covered in class. I dont know about you but I never picked up the book for his class and I got an A on every single exam. The 5 surprise ID's are a joke, just when he mentions a name or event write the thing down. He talks about all the ID's in class and if he doesnt just ask a few questions and ure fine. Or if u have the internet wikipedia works wonders 9 times out of 10. His essays are not hard to prepare for. Hell go on and on and on about how you have to have like a gazillion bullet points for each but thats bs. I had about 4 or 5 major points i.e a paragraph for each point plus an intro and a conclusion and I was just fine. He also tends to go by pattern with how he selects his essays. Say for example he picks the first one, the next time he will pick the second and so on. I would say that he goes by that 70 percent of the time although there are some occasions in which he defers froim that so you still need to prepare for both. Bottom line for sucess in Moreno's class: Dont let him scare you the first few days (he puts on his tough show to sacre of the loosers) take good notes (just know the names and events you dont need a transcript) and just amke sure you study the notes and all the id questions, do so and Moreno's class is a walk in the park.

I took Moreno's class (17A) last Spring. I hated the way the tests were having a list of 30 IDs and having only 10 actually on the test, then memorizing the outline you made for the in-class essay. Also the essay that was out of class had to be singled spaced, which is ridiculous because college professors always ask for MLA format (doubled spaced). I was lucky I made out of the class with a "C". He has to have all attention on him, when I was passing notes to my friend in class he stopped the lecture and said excuse me, you and you can you please stop passing notes, its distracting and we had to see him after class. I was like saying hello are we in high school? The Final was a disaster because we had to do both the IDs and the essay together and he was 15 minutes late; he did not give us the time. I bullshitted my essay because I was tired from studying for both the night before. Don't take his class unless you are a good note taker and good on tests. I have to agree he does look good!!!!!

Mr. Moreno is very intelligent and knowledgable of history. His class is very enjoyable not just because he teaches well but also because he is so fine. Such eye candy.....yuuuumm. He also has a nice back door a.k.a cheeks, if you know what I mean.

I was told he was a good teacher. I will do my own teacher research next time.
I don't reccomend this teacher. Find another! Take Luis Shubert, he's amazing. One of the funnest classes ever.
Edward Moreno could learn a lot from Shubert, they even share the same office!
Edward Moreno is a pussy. Gives only half of the material on the test on the study guide. Rest have to come from your detailed notes. Forcing the student to take detailed notes. A lot of the tests were on trivial bits of knowledge. Battle of fallen timbers? who the fuck cares?
Find someone else...

Yes, Moreno's lectures are dense. Yes, it's sometimes hard to write it all down before he moves to the next topic. BUT this is a college level class and he's there to teach you history. It's not the teacher's issue if you find history dull or if your bitter that it's a required course. I received an A in his class, here's how I did it: I worked hard. That's the secret. His tests aren't easy, if you want an easy A do not take this course. I recorded the lectures and used that to fill in the gaps in my class notes. His tests are essay and short answer questions that are pulled directly from the class notes. You can read the book if you want to but you won't need to. The short answer IDs were always written on the board so I underlined anything written on the board so that I'd know to pay more attention to it when studying. As a teacher I found him to be good at lecturing and he definitely knows history.

Moreno made sure to cover all the topics in class, but the class wasn't very interesting. He always seemed rushed, moving from one topic to the other. There was little time for discussion or interaction. He does give you all the facts though.
You must be sure to take notes the whole time, otherwise he will kick you out of class.
I would not recommend this class to those of you who have difficulty comprehending English.

I had him in spring 06
History is a real boring subject for people just taking it for GE, but Moreno makes the subject more interesting. You can tell from his lectures that he is very passionate and energetic about the subject. He talks pretty fast during lectures, so you better pay attention and take good notes. What worked for me was abbreviating alot of common words so i could write down stuff quicker, and i would be ready by the time he started talking about the next subject. It's better to take notes than to read the book, which didn't go into alot of detail for certain test questions. There is no extra credit, and your grade is pretty much your exam scores. You don't need extra credit anyway, because the tests are easy. ALso i agree with the other person about asking questions, I would save your questions until he stops to take questions. Just write a note to yourself about what to ask.
Exams: He pretty much tells you what is going to be on the exam. It is 2 parts that are identification of terms and an essay portion. The exam lasts for 2 class meetings, so you have plenty of time to study and prepare. It's basically all memorization once you prepared your notes for the exams. I always forgot about the specific years that certain events occurred, but i still got full points. Like the other person stated "just know what you are talking about". You have to write them correctly in "english prose", which pretty much means complete sentences. Also I don't know why some people are annoyed about this. Have you ever tried proof reading someones essay and got confused about what the hell they were talking about? The good thing is that he tells you how you should start and end sentences for the identifications.
I definitely recommend taking him, but like others have mentioned if English isn't your first language, then Moreno might be difficult.
I swear if you can't handle his lecture style or exams, then you're not ready to transfer to a university.

My title says a lot within itself. To start, he's a date Nazis. Each test consist of IDs and 2 page essays. For both, you're to include exact dates. The more exact, the better. The IDs are comprised of 2 sentences written in precise and proper English prose about terms or concepts relative to the current chapter. 30 terms are given yet only 10 will appear on the test. Prepare for ALL 30 because the selection remains unknown until exam day. Plus, expect SUPRISE items on each test.
Next are his essays. Of 2 topics that mimic take home essays, you prepare outlines in advance for both and the rest is up to him. This is the foundation of EVERY test.
For both portions, NO notes are allowed. Your grade in the class is based COMPLETELY on the tests. Need a pick me up here and there? Life's unexpectedness bring your progress down a knotch? TOO BAD! Extra credit, make up assignments, or anything of the sort is not existent.
He's knowledgable about the subject, that's hands down. But his teaching methods need resuscitation. During lecture, you'd swear he were a auctioneer if you weren't in a classroom environment; he spits the material at a fleeting pace. Got questions? Don't ask in class, he hates being interupted even though his syllabus states otherwise. He tends to talk at you more than with you; you get a feeling of inferiority with his egocentric attitude.
Pointers? Maintain eye contact with him and at least pretend like you're writing if you can't keep up, he takes these actions into account when calculating your grade. Avoid him if you can!

This is guy definitely knows his stuff. His lectures a very nicely structured and interesting to listen to. If english is not your first language, then you have somewhat of hard time. He is somewhat of a fast talker, and sometimes uses words then I probably would never use in a regular discussion. But he usually restates it in simpler terms.
SInce he is a fast talker, you have to write fast. I remember on a few occasions where I had to stop to rest my hands. When he goes into a deep analytical discussion on a certain subject, DO NOT stop taking notes. Most people just zone out and stop writing when he does that, however, it is a good chance what he is analzing will be an essay question. I would not rely on the book too much. It was good, but it did not explain certain things very well. Therefore, the class lectures will fill in the gaps.
He pretty much tells you what is on the test. All you have to do is put some work in to prepare for it. Just know what you are talking about and you will get credit. Don't BS
Personally the only thing I hated about this class was that the exams were split into 2 class meetings. But then again you get more time prepare for each part of the exam.

Even if you don't enjoy history that much, his lectures will make it all the more tolerable. Mr. Moreno is very passionate about the subject and knows more than just the facts but intimate details about people and such that he throws in the lectures just to give you a good laugh. Also, if you pay attention in class, absorb the information, and take good notes, you will only have to do quick review before the test in order to do well. Very well made tests that only cover material you hear in class, nothing is on the test that he didn't already tell you. Each exam is accompanied by a short in-class essay but don't sweat it, as long as you show that you know the material he will grade you based on that, not on spelling or grammatical errors.
One of the best teachers I've had at CCSF.

He will make you work in his class, but it is well worth it. This guy knows his stuff. So be prepared to learn. His expectations from you are laid down from day 1. It's really not that hard to earn an A if you take good notes and pay attention to his lectures. Mr. Moreno is also excellent in giving personal feedback. He really lays out his expectations in the beginning of the course so that you know exactly what you need to do to get an A. His exams were challenging in that you definitely had to study for them, but you knew what material he really wanted you to learn.

Moreno is absolutely great. He delivers a lot of information, he is energetic and engaging in his lectures. Exams are very straight-forward, easy to prepare for and thorough: include ids and essays.
I took 17A last spring, and I thought it was a great miss not to have "reviewed" it earlier. Not too hard to get an A in if you put some effort. And the material is dynamic and interesting so you're motivated to learn.
Also - not sure if it's appropriate to put that in - Moreno's very handsome.

This teacher is by far the best history teacher I have ever had. This man is unbelievable in that he knows everything off the top of his head! If you prepare the way he tells you too and take a few hours out of the week before the exam, you'd have to be an idiot not to get and A in his class. That's not because it's easy but because he genuinely cares about his students and his passion for history. This teacher is one of the best I've had at CCSF.

You have to read and study it is worth it. He is funny but really makes you learn and his 4 exams are what your grade is based on so you have to study but it is not like having projects and papers and I liked that! If you are looking for an easy class to sleep through, don't even bother taking Mr Moreno's class. This is a very knowledgeable teacher, who has high expectations from his students. People are expected to think analitically and Mr Moreno designs his tests to ensure that you are paying attention. His lectures are rich with information that will help you decide on the essays you will be required to write as a part of each test. Mr Moreno, is available to help and answer questions whether in person or by phone, it is very obvious that this man loves his profession and makes sure that his students learn to view history as a dynamic subject. I would recommend Mr. Moreno to anyone interested in a good education (and yes, he is very handsome).

Professor Moreno was an excellent teacher! i learned a great deal in his class! half expecting to fall asleep, seeing as its history and all, i managed to attend every class and paid attention! his tests are quite simple. identify and define some terms, a take home essay, and some biography questions. for the take home essay, u get to choose which one u would like to write about; for the id's, just look them up in the book, or just read ur notes. he'll tell u in his lectures and define them for u too; and the biographies are bascially ur opinions/response to what u read! there are 5 questions, and on the test, he'll pick 2 and u choose which u want to write about. he's enthusiastic, willing to help, and all-in-all a great teacher to have!

Moreno knows a lot about history and you can tell he's passionate about it. Great. This does the student no good, as he refuses to speak slowly, at least slower...he should cut out the 5:pm coffee (class started at 6PM).Deff. avoid if you're ESL, as even native speakers are left in the dust. He asks questions and my experience was that most students could answer w/ corrrect info, but he could never just say "you're right!" and would always make your answer sound like he thought it was wrong, then just re phrase what had been said (Wierd). Seems inexperienced, novice or just doesnt care about actually teaching.
