You will aquire a great understanding of historical events

I thought this class was absolutely fantastic. Not onl;y is it straight forward/heres what happened but he applys humor to his lessons that make the class very entertaining. He has the gift to teach. I'm currently enrolled in my second class with him and having a blast. His jokes not only are funny but they allow you to catch up to what he is saying in terms of copying notes. Lastly unless you like wasting money, do not buy the book. You can of course it wouldnt hurt but he goes over everything thoroughly in class to the point that I never onced picked up my text book in my first class with him until i sold it back. Just take good notes because his exams are entirely based upon that. The man is a wonderful teacher and I highly recomend his class with flying colors.

Amazing Class

I'm not sure what these people are talking about. . ."boring?". There is nothing boring about Oxsen's class. If you have a modicum of interest in history his classes are great. He has a unique sense of humor and the tests are relatively easy as long as you show up to class. Just a suggestion, pay attention in class and don't ask random questions- he will tell you what you need to know.

Funny guy, but poorly organized.

Richard Oxsen (I called him "Roxsen" becuase it sounded cool) is a very funny teacher. I love especially the way he explains events in history. The class was pretty easy for me because I'm pretty good at memorization, and he only has 3 tests the entire semester.

He talks pretty fast, and jumps all over the place. There are a lot of students who ask "What did you just say?" and "Wait, I don't get what you just said at all" because he's so jumpy. But if you just ask, you'll be OK. Be sure to go through the book before taking any of his tests, because it is very helpful towards getting an A. Use flashcards. He's hard in the sense that he's not organized and difficult to assess, but I'm taking him again next semester due to his humorous way of analyzing history.

A Great Teacher and Lecturer

Mr. Oxsen is a great teacher; I really enjoyed his class. It should be noted about history classes in general that the teacher basically speaks and the student just writes down what he or she says, and this class is no different. But Mr. Oxsen is an engaging speaker, clear and easy to listen to and understand. Even his jokes are funny (which, I suspect, he inserts into his lectures to give students a chance to catch up when writing). You have to study for the tests, of course, but they aren't TOO hard, as long as you kept good notes. I'd take another class from him again without a second thought.

A fascinating teacher!

Oxsen is a brilliant and witty lecturer and he brings history alive in a way that few teachers are able to do. This class is downright fun, but be prepared to take a lot of notes at a very fast pace, because he covers a lot of material in a very short time, and you will be tested on what he says. His exams are very fair and they reflect the material he has covered. He's not an easy grader, but this is a university level course, and most universities don't hand out A's and B's like candy either. Just show up for every class, take detailed notes, and study for the exams, and you should do fine.

Oxsen rules

Oxsen has been teaching Western Civilization for most of the history of Western Civilization, but Oxsen rules. It may take a week or two to click with his biting, ironic sense of humor, but after I did, I never missed a class.

Mr. Oxsen is a cool and funny teacher. I always looked forward to coming to class, because you knew you were in for a show. There are times in where his lectures can be extremely boring, but he will always find ways to spice it up! His exams are easy, all you have to do is just take notes and study them. So if you are looking for a teacher that is full of knowledge and will make you laugh, please take Mr. Oxsen. He's the man!

He's cool

He's a pretty cool laidback teacher. His lectures can get boring but he tries to spice it up with little bits of scandalous stories and facts. His exams are not bad if you study. All you have to do to prepare is study your notes you take in class. He can talk a little fast so if you can, bring a recorder so you don't miss stuff. If you study what he talks about in class, and write a rough draft of the essay topic he gives you ahead of time for the exam, you should ace his class.

Easy class

Mr. Oxsen is a nice teacher. His quizes and exams are easy if you study especially focusing on the essays. He always make a review before the test and tell everything what's gonna be on the test especially the essay part. No projects, no presentations, no assignments, attendance not required, and he has a good personality. Most of the time, our class is boring but if you try to listen and focus on his lectures, you will enjoy it becuase sometimes he jokes a lot and relate the subject matter to the other fields.

Great sense of humor!

His classes are pleasant but require commitment, you can’t ditch and you have to listen. He is very entertaining and knows his stuff. Oxsen doesn’t give out assignments or homework; keeping up on the material is the student’s responsibility. I learned that the hard way but I signed up for another class with him this semester.

Really good sense of humor

Mr. Oxsen is a really fun teacher. Great personality and his lectures are intertaining. His tests are hard, because they are fill-in-the-blank, but if you show up for classes then you will do fine. Do not buy the book. You don't need it.
