This guy is good...

(Taken Spr. 2008) John Perryman teaches the biological aspects of human sexuality. You would think that this would be the dreary part of the course, but John makes it very interesting, mostly through the enthusiasm he himself has for the subject. He's been involved in the teaching of human sexuality at CCSF and other colleges for several decades, so this guy knows his stuff. John has a great sense of humor, and genuinely wants you to do well in the class. Every once in a long while, he would take a minute to remind us about the importance of attendance and doing the reading, but otherwise he is very approachable and will gladly answer questions. Pay attention to the practice test he hands out a few days before the quiz... those exact questions will most likely NOT be on the quiz itself, but they give you a good idea of what to study. Also, he will usually highlight the subjects he will quiz you on by saying something like "Hey folks, write this one down, cause it will DEFINITELY be on the quiz!!" The quizzes are scantron format, with about 50 bio questions. Bottom line: John is a great instructor, well-informed, and has a great sense of humor. If I had to, I would take another course with John without hesitation.

FUN CLASS!

I took human sexuality with John Perryman and Barbara Cabral. This class was SO much fun and very informative if you care to learn about this kind of stuff. John did the bio part and barbara did the psych part. They are very respectful of peoples stories/experiences and it's all kept confidential. The test part from John was decent IF YOU STUDY! If you don't, your screwed because his questions are very specific. Both teachers are SO lively and have a lot of experience. This class was great and I highly reccoment taking it with these two teachers.

Very friendly and approachable

When I took Human Sexuality, I didn't know quite what to expect. The class is taught by two instructors, one who lectures the biology part of sex, and another who lectures the psychology part of sex. Mr. Perryman is a biologist, and he taught (of course) the biology side of IDST17. At first I thought the biology part would be the dry part, but Mr. Perryman turned out to be a very, very funny and interesting teacher who lectured wonderfully. He looks a lot like Leslie Nielsen, so you can imagine... yet he never lost control of the class. The class itself was a little more technical than I expected. They show a movie of two people having sex, but it wasn't real porn, and it was a little more embarrasing than erotic. There's a midterm and a final, and both are 100 question multiple choice Scantron thingies. If you need IDST17 (it fulfills area E of General Ed to transfer to State), make sure you register for the Perryman/Ladin class. It's gotta be the best one.
