Excellent, Dedicated

Online version of Psych 1, Spring 2007. Roberts is overall excellent. She is patient, approachable, and very focused while maintaining a friendly attitude. She checked her email very often. She clearly cared about her students' success. The course is set up nicely, with every point of the course accounted for on an easy to follow chart. No group projects or outside meetings required. I would gladly take any other course J. Roberts had to offer.

The best math teacher I've ever had!

Judith was an amazing teacher! She completely transformed my belief system about my inability to understand math. She is compassionate because she didn't always excell at math, so she can teach it perfectly to others with the same problem. Her lectures are clear and perfectly laid out and she rewords concepts over and over so it will eventually get through. If you have fear of math, then I highly recommend her. She is encouraging and supportive, and gives good honest feedback. She teaches on Saturdays, which can be a drag, but she gives breaks and keeps it moving and interesting. Basically, as long as you stay up to date with your homework, and give it your best, you will do well. She also offers extra credit, and various ways to improve your grade if you do poorly on tests. I absolutely loved her! Her ability to manage such a big class and respond to each of us individually was impressive.

All you could hope for in a Statistics Teacher!!

Taking Judith's Psyc 5 class to fulfill my quantitative reasoning requirement was probably the best decision i made during my academic career at City College! Judith is a gem when it comes to teaching the statistics material because she makes her lectures very straight-forward and interesting at the same time. I almost never had problems in this class and rarely had to take advantage of her office hours because she came to class so well prepared each and every Saturday.

Frankly, the class didn't even feel like it was 5 hours because i was so into the material, as odd as that may sound coming from someone who pretty much hates math for the most part. I guess because it's possible to relate this material to the outside world, that's why i liked this class so much. Frankly, i'm more interested in standard deviaiton and population distributions than i'd ever be in wondering about 2x+4=10.

I did so well in this class because i had real guidance and a professor who was as approachable as they come. She never ever made you feel stupid for asking questions and she always showed concern for her students' well being in the class.

She gives chapter tests every week, so be prepared for those, however, with her lectures and doing the homework, doing well on them shouldn't be too difficult. Her midterm exam and final are a little more difficult than the weekly chapter tests, but only because they're more conceptual than they are qunatitative.

Ms. Roberts requires everyone to submit mid-weekly e-mail homework on Wednesdays, but those questions are very straight forward. All you have to do is put your answers in your own words to show you understand what the book is talking about. There's also a required GSS project with 4 small parts that you have to do towards the end of the semester, but you can pick your variables to do your calculations and research. It's very interesting actually.

The thing i loved about this class is that you weren't just solving equations and getting some number out of it. Numbers are plentiful in the course, don't get me wrong, but in the end, they all stand for something, and they go further to tell you about people and distributions, not just that the answer is 6, for example. Your answers will tell you how spread out people are around a sample and/or population mean and how much variability there is in the scores.

Ms. Roberts was also incredibly timely when it came to answering questions by e-mail. She would respond very fast to a question which showed real dedication to the subject matter. That's what makes a fabulous teacher, and there should be many more professors at City College with Judith's dedication and abilities! You won't regret taking this class! I sure didn't!

A great teacher for a tough class

Judith Roberts is an excellent teacher. I was trying to add this class at the beginning of the semester so I was going to all the offered Psyc 5 classes hoping to try to get into one of them. I ended up choosing to take Judith's class, which is a 5 hour long class that meets on Saturday morning. I gave up my Saturdays because I felt that Judith explained the subject well, and would be very available for questions and assistance. This proved to be true. The lectures are easy to follow as Judith explains things well, and answers alot of questions in class, if she can't help you understand the material during class she has long office hours on Fridays, and is available on e-mail all week. You are expected to e-mail Judith part of the homework mid week, this helps force you not to leave studying until the last minute. If you have any questions during the week, you can e-mail Judith, and she will reply, sometimes with in minutes. This class is alot of work, but all the work ensures that you understand the calculations and theory behind them. I highly reccomend Judith Roberts.
