I thought this class would be interesting, boy was I wrong

First of all, let me say that Mr. Sardalla is an extremely nice man. If you have questions, talk to him after class, or during his office hours, he is very nice, focused, and helpful.

That said, this was the worst class I had last semester. Every Tuesday, we would have a lecture that consisted of Sardalla standing in front of the room, trying to remember what he wanted to lecture about and usually repeating himself. Every Thursday, we would watch a movie. (which was sometimes COMPLETELY unrelated to the history of the Philippines!) The only homework in the class were 1-2 page reaction papers that commented on the movies we watched.

This class is fairly easy, if that's all you care about. Sardalla did not have the ability to keep the rowdy boys in my class quiet, and they often disrupted the lectures by jumping out of the windows, asking inappropriate questions, and making jokes.

Sardalla's lectures were the worst part of this whole thing. Many people would get up and leave in the middle of his lectures. He would go off on random tangents, never explaining which dates/persons were important and would be on the tests. He often ended up giving the same lecture two or three times!! He was very unorganized, and never handed back the papers you turned into him.

The grading is based on the reaction papers to the videos, participation, two tests, and a term paper. The tests are incredibly hard, because a lot of them are true/false questions about minor details Sardalla included in his long, boring lectures. But he grades on a curve, so even if you don't study, you will probably at least receive a passing grade.

I would not recommend Sardalla as a professor to anyone. He has a way of making material that could be interesting seem like the most boring information in the world!

BORING, BUT AN EXCELLENT INSTRUCTOR!!!!!!!

Dr. Sardalla is a good and imformative teacher. Yes, he can have these long boring sessions, but yet he is very knowledgable. He really doesn't assign any homework, except for reading the book. He really doesn't write too much down on the chalkboard. But, as long as you take down notes, and review them well you will pass his exams. I enjoyed being in his class, he is very open and kind instructor who is willing to help you if need extra help in the course. I would encourage students to take his class if you really want to learn a lot about the history of Southeast Asia. Also, take him for Filipino Humanities, there also, Dr. Sardalla is very imformative. He is a good teacher, but like I said he can be boring, but bear with it you will learn plenty.

never know what he's talking about

Mr. Sardalla obviously knows his history of southeast asia. Problem is, he doesn't know how to pass it on. His lectures go all over the place, as do the videos he chooses and the books he assigns. I had no idea what the class was about or what was going on. He won't really tell you either if you go talk to him. Go ahead and take it if you want to just waste time and sit there listening to him talk about nothing.
