She is terrible!

She was a terrible teacher. The class was hard as hell and I learned so little. She just put us in groups to discuss the reading, and later, critisize how bad we are.

Intense and challenging

She'll tell her students up front who she suggests drops her class and who should stay...harsh, yes but she is being honest. It is true she teaches an intense class and she is demanding, if your reading skills aren't great do not take this class because the essays are going to write for her will be more difficult. I recommend those who are seriously prepared for 96 to take her because her stardards for the class are raised up. In her lectures be prepared to speak because she will call on her students and it's important to be prepared with an answer. She challenges her class to think further from their own thoughts and go beyond that. Her reading assignments are a large load, but I praise she does cover great material in class about it. Essays will not be peer edited inside of class for she wants you to do it outside of class on ur own time.

A challenging teacher

Mrs Scrafford is a tough grader. Her classes are challenging and she takes roll everyday. Once you hit 6 absences, you'll have to drop the class, no excuses. If you have a commitment problem, do not take her. She knows her material very well and challenges her student to think critically, which is really what this class is all about. If you want to challenge yourself and be fully prepared for English 1A, this is the class for you. She is very strict but what she really wants to achieve is full preparation on the part of the student before entering ENGL 1A. As long as you're willing to work hard and attend every class, you'll suceed in her class. I forgot to add one more thing: the only homework I had so far was reading and evaluation of the different essays she assigned. You really have to do your homework; read in order to excel in her class. Good luck.

Strict but fair and you'll learn something.

Scrafford is an intimidating teacher but she really knows her stuff. She may seem very strict and hard but she is fair. Sometimes it seems like she is challenging what you are saying but she is merely trying to get you to be more specific or think beyond the obvious. The hw is basically readings and essays about what you've read. She does take attendance every day but allows up to 6 absences throughout the semester.

Strict but fair

I think Barbara Scrafford is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I went in to her class thinking I was going to do so bad that I went to a counselor to let me take a lower class. That was not allowed so I took Scraffords class. By the second paper I was getting staight A's. It only took one of her classes to make it all click for me. I have noticed that some people have trouble in her class but those are also the people who don't take the class seriously. Scrafford is very strict but fair.
