I think that Mrs. Spears is a wonderful instructor, but I was unhappy when she said I was "dumb." She had me see her in her office one day, because I was not doing too well. I did not want to tell her my family life, so I just kept quiet. Then I told her that I had personal things going on in life that were disturbing me. I guess she did not quite understand what I had said. So we went over my grade and papers. I left her office and I felt more discouraged than ever.

Mrs. Spears is a tough, but supportive teacher. She provides the students with a firm grasp of English grammar, punctuation, and mechanics. All of these tools are needed for success in English 1A, 1B, and 40. Mrs. Spears is willing to meet the students more than half way if she sees them working. I have spent quite a few office hours with her in order to prepare myself for essays and tests. She is one of the most dedicated and caring teachers I have ever experienced. If you love literature, you will find this teacher an inspiration.

I took Mrs. spears' english 96 class and honestly, she taught more like a 1A teacher.i found her class to be pretty intense for a 96 class but she will definitely prepare you for 1A. she's a good teacher and the material is very thought-provoking. do not expect an easy grader though; you have to work hard and she grades hard on essays, so do not expect to slack. tests are not too bad. they are mostly on reading done in class. overall, mrs. spears is a tough teacher, but you will definitely find an improvement in your writing at the end of the semester. do not take her class if you're not responsible, or miss class often; each class is important and missing a section could only hurt you. the only problem i found with mrs. spears is she didn't seem to give the benefit of the doubt when it came to final grades. i started out the semester with a B and although she continually told me my writing had improved, i still ended up a with B. also, this class is only for the committed: the class started out full but ended up with only a handful of people at the end of the semester.
