Mr. Thaggert shouldn't be teaching math at a college level. Here's why:
1) He consistently makes mistakes in class when he is doing math problems and he doesn't catch his own mistakes. The students usually do.
2) The day before a quiz or an exam Mr. thaggert goes over material that won't be on the next quiz or exam.
3) When correcting quizes and exams Mr. thaggert makes mistakes. On Quiz #2 I had a correct answer and showed my work but he didn't give me credit for my answer. I had him to re-check that problem on my quiz. when he returned it to me he gave me 8 out of 12 pts and he wrote, "next time no additional credit". I don't understand why he wrote that because if I was wrong he shouldn't have given me any additional pts but if he was wrong he shouldn't tell me he won't give me any additional credit next time because that would be his fault not mine.
4) Eventhough Mr. thaggert isn't a good teacher he only gave the class one chance for extra credit and it came unexpectedly on Exam #2. It was one of the multiple choice problems and the amount of extra credit pts earned for getting the correct answer is determined by the current grade the student has. If your current grade was an A or B you got 3pts, a C 4pts, a D 6pts, an F 8pts. I always thought extra credit pts should be equal for everyone. At the time I had a B and if I wold have gotten the extra credit question correct, I would have gotten 3, count'em, 3 pts, which would have done nothing for my grade. That extra credit was mainly for students who struggled in the first half of the semester. My problem with this is if he wasn't going to have the extra credit equal for everyone, he should have added the extra credit at the end of the semester so that it would be fair for the students who did good in the first half of the semester but struggled in the second half.
5) On Exam #3 Mr. thaggert asked a yes or no question and he wanted us to explain why. I answered correctly but I didn't explain my answer well enough so I got partial credit. A classmate answered the same yes or no question incorrectly but she explained herself better than I did so she got more pts than me. Does that make sense? If I ask two people if a snake has hind legs and the first person tells me yes because they can crawl fast and hunt food and the second person tells me no because they don't have legs, should I give the first person more points because he/she explained herself with more words?
6) On quiz #3 Mr. thaggert made the total pts possible 80, which isn't a problem. My problem was with the last question that was worth 16 pts. This problem was worth more pts than any other problem and he never went over this type of problem in class. The highest grade I could get without getting the last problem correct was a B- or 80%. Getting that problem wrong eliminated my chance to earn an A in the class.
7) Mr. thaggert has no office hours so if you want to talk to him you must do it before he leaves class.
-But I do have some good news. I just saved a lot of money on my car insurance by switching to.......the bus. Well, then again, it is the bus, so I guess there isn't any good news.
