You will learn alot from her

Prof. Wetzel usually teaches Bio 101B but is retiring and now only teaches in the lab section. Her lectures are at times rather monotone and yes her quizzes and tests are rather hard, but you do learn alot from her if you pay attention. Her labs are also rather freeform. You have a general guideline but nothing set in stone. This was what I actually enjoyed the most about this lab with wetzel that I could look at everything in my own time as needed rather then a strict boring schedule. If you're one of those people that need constant structure and guidelines or else you feel utterly lost , this is NOT the lab for you. She knows alot and is more then willing to supply you with any information to any question you might ask. As far as her being scary in lecture, she did yell at two girls who were talking while she was lecturing to Dr. grass' section as a guest speaker. These girls were laughing/talking not paying attention and actually being rather rude. I was sitting near where it happened and I was happy she yelled at them. Nothing worse then sitting in class, trying to pay attention and having people talking and being disrespectful while the teacher is TRYING to teach something. That is the only time I have ever seen her lose her temper, so giving her an F, for exercising her right as a teacher and chastizing two girls for being rude and disrespectful does not make her scary or a bad teacher. SHe is a hard teacher but you will learn alot from her.

Nice teacher

Dr. Wetzel gave very good chalk board notes that I was able to use to make successful study guides. Don't sit on the left side of the class because as she writes with her right hand on the chalk board, she blocks what she's writing. Maybe that's not very fair, but it's what I experienced. She did a good job otherwise.

I had a problem with her lab projects, and the quizzes. The lab projects were sort of vague in what we supposed to be doing. I remember looking through the microscope a lot, disected a heart, a brain, a kidney and a bug. Not sure what I was supposed to be doing with them. Her quizzes were very difficult. Getting 50% was pretty good on most of those.

The lab practical exams were mostly set up by Dr. Grass, but she would make some adjustments. The last one (of two) was a killer. I think she graded it very fairly, though.

Poor Speaker

Personally, I can't seem to stay awake in the class. Very boring. I learned more from the book. If you stay awake for lecture, she says something meaningful sometimes, but not very often. Grading isn't so hard, no hw, 3 tests, 1 final. She takes questions from her old exams and adds a couple new ones, mostly multiple choice. If you want to keep up in the class, you have to read a lot, most of the time you read your chapters about a week before she even lectures about it.
