Paul Young

I recommend Paul Young for BIO101B Lab.

He is very approachable--he will patiently talk with you about concerns you may have about the class, and he will answer questions you ask in lab. If he doesn't know the answer, he will research it in biology books and tell you what he found. He cares about students, and he cares about the subject matter. He wants students to do well.

The tests are a thorough look into what you have learned. There is a lot to learn in this class--better pay close attention to what is presented, and take some sort of notes so that you can study for tests. Anything you see in lab may be on a lab practical. It's a tough class--there is a lot of material that you have to learn (if you've been exposed to this stuff before, it will help).

He didn't always return quizzes or classwork in a timely manner; that's why I gave him a C in "Homework"--there is actually no homework assigned in this class, except for the poster project.

Don't be afraid to ask questions if he goes over something a little quickly and you didn't understand what he said.

He gives quizzes every week. The first half asks about material that will be on this week's lab, and the second half covers last week's lab, to see what you learned. It will make your life a whole lot easier if you spend some time reading the lab book before lab, to be prepared for the quiz. These quizzes count for a big chunk of your grade. He graded ours on a curve, I think, but don't count on that.

I'm very happy I took his lab, because of his intelligence, love of biology, and concern for students.

he always dismiss his classes.... no homework... easy grading... nice man.... organizing.... easy lab... full marks of lab work if you attend the class..... MC for tests....

Mr. Young is an excellent asset for CCSF to have on staff. His classes are well structured, and are conducive to learning. He answers all questions, as well as prepares his students well for the exams. His personality is easygoing, yet professional. He's an all around great teacher. He writes everything on the board that we need for his tests, so if you take good notes, your set!
