Nice guy, dull class

Aviram's one of the nicest professors you'll ever have; he's also one of the most dry professors you'll ever have. I had him for ENGL102 Honors and we only covered The Canterbury Tales, reading in Middle English, and composing in XHTML. If you like The Canterbury Tales, take him, the class will intrigue you. His class is easy -- especially if you attend; however, sitting through his lectures leaves much to be desired. This is why I rarely went. Even though Aviram knew that I was absent far more often than I was present (he even addressed this in his final e-mail to me), he didn't penalize my grade for it.

Really boring

Did not explain assignments very well. Is the most boring teacher I've ever had. He gave us off the wall assignments that had nothing to do with typical composition and literature. No matter how much sleep I got the night before, I always fell asleep in his class. Constantly tried his best to make me feel like I was stupid. Avoid this professor!

Great teacher, fairly simple class

This class may have been hard in the past, but it sure is not anymore. All you have to do is come to class whenever you feel like being a bit enlightened, which could be never. But, even still, just read on your own time, and you'll be fine. Both tests are on Blackboard, so you get to take them at home, and they are pretty easy. I'd recommend this class to anyone even remotely interested in the Canterbury Tales, bc Dr. Aviram has a very interesting sense of humor, and makes the class easy and worth your while.

Be ready to work...and some optional attendance to sweeten the deal

Ok, if you like hard work and a challenge, this is the class for you. But if you were like me and like 'why am I here?' for the first 3 or so weeks of the course listen to this.

Professor Aviram's class is interesting, if you like to study languages. Even though the linguistic portion of it is tedious, it is at times helpful because as an English major you have to know this sort of thing at take a lingustics class. Story...you read in the Canterbury tales pretty well. The good thing about Aviram's class that he is willing to help you. Even at times he seems like a know it all. But he is willing to help you get through the class (trust me, trying to pronounce middle english in a country vernacular was a challenge) but it is worth it.

So take the class if you want to be challengened and if you are lucky, you will be glad you did. Oh and one more thing....did I mention optional attendence? That helps sometimes as well.

Boring Class and teacher

This was a horrible class. The professor was super smart but his tests were very hard and all we read was the Canterbury Tales. The worst thing was that he made us read out loud speaking in middle english. His only grades were the two tests. We took the tests on the computer so you immediately knew your grade. There was no attendance taken, his lectures were boring and in all honesty his class should have been a language class cause tahts' all he talked about!
