Glad I had him and not someone else

No one likes biology... especially when you're not a science major or any kind but he made it easy. He was little scatter-brained but he was a nice guy.

Fair Guy

Lawther maybe isn't a good teacher but is a great guy. He told us the first day that he had never taught biology and hadn't studied it in near 40 years. negative:his lectures are merely overhead projections, copyying about 25 of them in 50 min, this system of note taking isn't bad except when one person screams ok he takes it off not considering the other 250 students in the class positives: he realizes when he's not doing good at something... he tries hard but if he sees he's doing a bad job he will help your grade... he will not penalize you for his inabilities.... he gave our class 4 exams and when he realized his teaching wasn't good and it reflected in our grades, he dropped the lowest grade and added 10 points to our final overall average... after doing this the majority of the class fell into the B range... Lawther might not teach you much... but he won't hurt your gpa either

Brother has issues....but his class is easy and cool ...sometimes

The brother has issues! That is all I am saying. But his exams are easy. I learned more in the lab with Phil than in class but truthfully, he is more crossed up than me in science. And that is scary. Take his class if you need a class to pass easily.

Not as bad as everyone says

Lawther isn't as bad as everyone makes him out to be. Yes his lectures are VERY boring, but his tests are SIMPLE!! Read the text and take notes and you'll do just fine.

He has his days

Dr. Lawther was an okay teacher. He was very fair, but he would have some days where he could be a complete ass to everybody. He drops the lowest test grade which is always a plus. I liked almost everything about the class except for his attitude.

He's Confused, I'm Confused , Who isn't???

I have had Dr. Lawther for this class and another and I agree that his tests are almost impossible to pass. The questions he asks are very picky details that may or may not have been covered in class. I could study for weeks and still only may a low C. In Bact. class he only coved half of the material that we were suppose to cover, this was brought to the chairmans attention and guess what, HE IS TEACHING IT AGAIN!!!!! Most of class he spends saying "ummmmm, uhhhhh, I don't know..." We were all confused!! If you can wait -take it with someone else. I learned nothing about bacteriology under him! Good Luck if you decide to take him you'll need it!!!

Bacteriology could be so much better.

Dr. Lawther's specialty is biochemistry, and when he told his class on the first day of the semester that he had never taught bacteriology nor did he know that much about it, I should have known it would be bad experience. The worst part of this course were the exams...they were extremely ambiguous, and studying didn't really help. In addition, he so unknowledgeable in the field of bacteriology that it's annoying. He is a nice guy, though, and I think he does care about his students.

I've heard excellent things about the other bacteriology teacher, Dr. Lovell. If you can, learn bacteriology from him instead.
