As an adult student with Math Phobia it was with great fear that I enrolled in Pre-Algebra Math 200. I luckily got Susan for my teacher and have followed her through Math 101 and now Math 105. Although I will never come to love Algebra, I no longer feel intimidated by it. Susan makes it clear that she is responsible for you learning, which takes all the pressure off the student. What I liked most about her style was the very structured way she went over the lessons, always using the overhead to explain what was unintelligible in the book. She also is aware of what areas each of her students is weak in (I just got a note on my homework telling me to come to her for help again with factoring... this means she really, really spends time going over the homework. She gives quizzes weekly but they are generally pretty easy and I usually get 8 out of 10, even if I'm not completely clear. The best thing about Susan is that she makes an effort to get to know her students. She knows everyone's name by the first month if not before, and calls each of us by name when we approach her. She is everything that a teacher should be!
