READ this before you READ the other reviews

Obviously the positive reviews written about this teacher are authored by the teacher himself. This guy is sad and pitiful. He is just the guy to go on this website and give himself good reviews. He should learn to teach, or find another job.

A wonderful teacher! His class is not for the lazy-minded student!

Dr. Brinkley is an excellent professor. He has high standards and cares for the students he teaches. Many students do misread his serious nature the wrong way. He is serious about his profession and his work, yes. But he also has a great deal of fun teaching. He knows so much and does not simply let students get by with a mimimum amount of effort. So much of the time, standards are dropped for good education. When students who have had it easy through high school and then have a class with much more difficult professor like Dr. Brinkley, they think the problem is with the teacher and no with themselves. For this reason, Dr, Brinkley has a reputation for being difficult. Anyone contemplating taking a course with Dr. Brinkley should think twice. They should first decide whether or not they really want to learn things. Second, they need to think about how much effort they are willing to put into a course. His classes are not for the lazy. They are for the hard-working student who desires to learn. Dr. Brinkley has a wealth of knowlege that he wants to share, yet when I walk around school and hear his students complaining about the work load in his class, I find it hard to keep my opinion to myself. Dr. Brinkley deserves an A+ for his efforts. I hope that some day he will be recognized for the wonderful man and excellent teacher he is.

a great man and teacher

i feel this is a good professor. he is one of those teachers who allow the student to grow and think for them selves. so do not be fooled by other LU students who will say he is bad. many liberty students like to be spoon fed and there for have problems with this kind of teacher. it is sickening that a student would blame their short comings on a teacher rather than their slow mindness. i am a former IB student and i think by WORLD STANDARDS HE IS GREAT. so do not listen to other LU students they are merely intellectually challenged.

Not a Favorite

I would never recommend Dr. Brinkley to any student. His homework assignments are usually just reading, but his quizzes are nearly impossible! If you read the assigned story, you are supposed to remember impossible facts and figures. And the worst are the tests. Only the author would remember the points he expects you to know. I went through high school making A's and B's in honors & AP English courses, but I was afraid I wouldn't pass this course because his tests were crazy. They made no sense. We never really discussed the book or story as I have done in other college English courses. There is rarely any group work.

I was once questioned by him about cheating because I had discussed an in-class assignment with another student. We were watching a video of all things and had to answer the questions from a handout. The guy sitting next to me didn't catch something so I told him what I had gotten and that was considered cheating. I've never heard of such a thing.

As for his personality, he is a nice guy but really does not relate well to students. He gets excited about the puritans and their laws, but that's about it. This was the only class I dreaded the entire sememster.
