Worthwhile

Don alternates between incredibly fast-paced and really informative lectures with pictures and diagrams and handouts, and sessions where he leafs through the text and calls out relevent page numbers. The first is definitely his forte and the last is tedious but eventually helpful in guiding exam studying. The labs are really chaotic with lousy instruction and nobody knowing how to do much of anything. It is a real fly by the seat of your pants approach to learning. This may well mimic the networking professional experience but I would like more guidance before I am thrown out there on my own. Don is horrible at handing back work and employs his own bizarre marking scheme for labs. I mean really what kind of mark is check plus? What does that mean? Nonetheless Don seems to care aobut the students and makes an effort to communicate and keep us informed and ask for feedback. He is a relatively approachable guy, if you can find him, and particularly likes to encourage women in this field. The course is straightforward and requires that you keep up with your reading and memorize EVERYTHING. THe exams are detailed but deal mostly with concept. It might take you a minute but if you have attended classes and labs and stayed on top of your reading you should do fine.
