Dale Shpak

Another course with Dale Shpak, another favourable review. Coincidence? I think not.

For me, Shpak's labs were the highlight of the course. They were interresting, challenging, and very educational. Also, his in-class notes were an extremely helpful supplement for the textbook.

There isn't much else to say about Dale that I haven't already said before. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had, and I would not hesitate taking more courses from him in the future.

I regard Dale very highly. He is extremely knowledgeable, but not arrogant: a good combination. Dale is a very outgoing and personable guy.

There are a lot of notes to take in his classes. Fortunately, they are well thought out and are very useful in studying. His handwriting is top-notch as well.

The labs were very interesting. He managed to cover everything I wanted to learn (setting up DNS, SAMBA, firewalls, etc) and much more without there every being too much work.

Exams seemed tough, but he was very easy when it came to marking. He doesn't care if you can memorize the specifications of various things, he wants to see if you know the important concepts behind them. I really liked his tests. There were no multiple choice, short answer, or T/F questions to be found anywhere. There is no way you can bluff your way out of this course. Still, marks were very high because he is an extremely compotent teacher.

Dale is what all computer science teachers should be like. Knowledgable, and a great resource for information concerning the course. Clear, concise lecture notes, tied in well with the textbook and labs. Clear definitions on what was to be covered on all tests. Labs and tests marked rapidly. Never could find his office though....
