I took the online version of CIS 27P - Java for Programmers, taught by Steve Richardson. It was very well done. Steve was very accessible, and very helpful when questions arose. Each week we had readings from the textbook, as well as summaries written by Steve. There were also practice questions, as well as a formal assignment. Steve encouraged a lot of active discussion on the course web site. It's definitely not a course for beginning programmers, but if you have used another language for a while, you will learn a lot of Java. It does require a lot of time; I often spent 10 hours or more per week.
I had some complaints. The textbook was adequate, and maybe even the best choice, but it could be meandering. We spent too much time on some topics (GUIs), and too little on others (data structures, threads, classes). Overall the course could have been more challenging. But it was still quite rewarding, and I would definitely take another course from this professor.
