I truly enjoyed the subject matter of this course, though I was sometimes reluctant to attend the lecture. Dr. Landreth is very knowledgeable about the subject matter, but tends to go off on tangents or talk about one subject for too long. The major pet peeve that I had was that she would talk about foreign terms or names without writing them of the board, so you didn't always know what she was talking about. And if you sit in the back of class, you can forget about trying to read what she has written on the board!
The class covers the major musical periods, styles and forms of music, and the lives and works of great composers. You could get all of the information from the textbook, but going to class is worthwile because of listening examples played in class that are not on the cd or tape set. (Some of these examples show up on the tests as extra credit).
