Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why did the name change from TeacherReviews to CourseReviews?
A: We didn't want people to think that this site was for high school teachers, and we wanted to show that this site is more than just rating professors.
Q: Who writes the reviews?
A: Students write the reviews. All students are encouraged to write reviews.
Q: Why aren't High Schools covered?
A: Most high school students do not get to choose their teachers, whereas many colleges and universities give that option to their students.
Q: Why was CourseReviews started?
A: See the About page for the inspiration behind CourseReviews.
Q: Can my university use CourseReviews as our official evaluation tool?
A: Yes. Contact us for more information.
Q: Are there rules for writing reviews?
A: Yes. See the Guidelines page.
Q: Are reviews removed?
A: Normally no. Reviews can be "banned" if they are inappropriate for the site and do not follow the guidelines. If a professor is no longer with the university we remove reviews to keep down the clutter and noise. If a professor passes away we remove the reviews for respect for the person and his or her family.
Q: How is TeacherReviews different than my university's evaluation system?
A: CourseReviews is the only site that requires in-depth reviews.
Q: How are students verified?
A: Posting your reviews on CourseReviews is 100% anonymous, however student's real email addresses are required. Reviews are hidden from public view until a link sent via email is clicked.
Q: How are professors verified?
A: We require email to come from the school's email system, as well as a phone number.
